Newborn hiccups

Does anyone have any tips for helping to relieve hiccups in a newborn? DS is 5 days old and has hiccups frequently.

We try to wind him but he doesn't really burp.

Could I give gripe water at this point or is too early?

Congratulations on your baby!

Hiccups are normal. You don't have to worry about treating them in a baby just as you wouldn't in yourself. No no to gripe water or anything other than milk. Remember their digestive systems have had nothing for 9 months so they just have to get used to feeds in the early days. Wind is normal - we all have it! Blush

Breastfeeding or a dummy sorts out baby hiccups.

My boy had hiccups throughout the whole day for months! Totally normal 😊😊

My baby is 5 months and he had them all the time when he was first born. Totally normal. I never gave my baby anything but they seemed to get less and less and he hardly gets them now at all.

My son is 3 months and has hiccups every day. He started in the womb. I gave gripe water from 1 week old, feeding distracted him and a caved and gave him a dummy as it helped. 75% of the time it doesn't bother him the remaining 25% he greets so frustrated.
Good luck.
