Organix Rice Cakes - choking!

My baby is 7 and half months old.

He hates my puree! He hates being fed so I try to give him some finger food after I tried puree.

I gave him a organix rice cake for the first time. He loved it. I turned around and he shoved it all in his mouth and started choking. I was so scared!!!

Obviously not got all 7 month olds Sad

How can I make food more interesting for him?

Food doesn't suddenly become interestingunless you get a fatty like i had it's a process.

Just keep offering from your plate and keep the milk/formula going you will get there.

Was he choking or gagging and spitting it out?

The gagging is quite normal in young babies. Their gag reflex is high to prevent them choking. They're learning about how much to put in, so if they put too much in they gag and spit it out.

Don't turn your back when he's eating though. Sit with him and watch him.

If you haven't done already it might be worth doing a first aid course as well.

No help sorry 😞 I'm going through the same sort of problem. DS1 at 11 months was eating all sorts. DS2 who is nearly 1..just has absolutely no interest in finger foods. He just wants puree smooth foods! Everytime I give him something with lumps in he gags, and spits it out! I don't know how to stop the fussiness! So will be interesting to know how other parents, solved it! Its really difficult isn't it!

Try melty puffs, melty sticks and kiddiliscous baby wafers if you want some quick. Banana and cucumber cut in to fingers are also really good. My daughter is similar and at 8.5 months i can give her a sandwich quartered but if I give her kiddiliscous or Heinz baby biscotti or familiar she will ram it in her mouth and start to choke so we avoid those

Was he choking (blue and silent) or gagging (noisy and red)?
Gagging is a completely normal part of weaning and babies learning to deal with lumpier foods in their mouths, although it can be very scary to see.
I would highly recommend doing a children's emergency first aid course or even just looking at some videos online, so you are confident that you could deal with proper choking if it ever happens. It gives you some peace of mind whilst weaning.

The best way to make food interesting for him is to offer him bits of what you are eating (obviously low/no salt, no whole nuts, no honey), get him trying proper food.
