Packing advice.. First overseas holiday to Italy

Just that really... I've packed the world supply of clothes and swimwear plus cardigans etc. A buggy and the car seat. Plus sleepwear, sleep bag and cot sheets. Some simple toys and a baby book.
Anything obvious or even not obvious I need to pack? Baby is 10 months.
He eats solids, is breastfed for milk and I'm going to buy nappies out there

Muslins? Blanket? Baby monitor (if you're in an apartment/villa)? Calpol? Sunshade?

Feel like I'm just adding things to my packing list!

I would also pack a supply of favourite snacks or easy foods, some for the plane, some for while you’re there til your can get settled and find things there. A sling for the plane/airport. I would also get a new toy or two for the plane that can be unwrapped and provide a bit of entertainment. I went to Spain alone with my then 8 month old and it was fine. Just bring what you use at home, no need to pack everything.

You'll be fine. The Italians adore babies. Have a fantastic time!

I don't use a sling he's crazy tall and heavy for his age. I was hoping to use the pushchair to the plane steps so he can nap.
I need a pushchair umbreller... I forgot. Prime it!
I have teething granuals as he is in bag and nurofen and sunblock and a hat.

suncream and sunsuit for swimming etc if it's hot where you are going.
Blanket for buggy if you are going out in the evening - it could still be quite chilly in the evenings.
Something in case it rains

Spanglyprincess1 · 01/05/2019 10:13

Ran s a good point too. I'll pack his rsinsuit.
So much stuff!
Its southern Italy so yes hot. He flat refuses to wear a sun hat so cream and parasol

Baby friendly mosquito repellent and mosquito net to put over the buggy

SunshineSpring · 01/05/2019 10:17

Socket adapters, half the clothes you currently have, passports and money/cards.

Spanglyprincess1 · 01/05/2019 10:34

Mosquito net. I have one already. I'll pack it now.

Toddler bowl, spoon and cup.
Calpol and piriton
Black out shade
Swim nappies
Shoes - walking and beach
White noise app
Familiar toys
New toys
Summer sleeping bag

Pack extra in change bag in case of delays in the airport.

Spanglyprincess1 · 01/05/2019 11:02

Forgot the spoon. Got a sippy cup x2

Don't forget that you can buy things out there! Smaller sunscreen bottle for out and about, wee blanket that may remind you of baby's first holiday for years to come, sippy cup, extra bibs etc.

I would also suggest translating a list, now, if things you may need, e.g. nappies, calpol, mozzie bite cream etc, it'll save stress and miming in a pharmacy (fondly remembers asking for NightNurse for DH and the side-splitting laughter from the Sicilian pharmacists many years ago Grin ).

As a pp says, children are welcome everywhere in Italy so he'll be cooed over wherever you go! Enjoy.

babysharkah · 01/05/2019 11:48

They have shops there - anything you forget you will be able to buy! I would add in some calpol / nurofen though, easier than having to find a chemist at 3am for a raging fever.

LIZS · 01/05/2019 11:53

And most infant painkillers are in suppository form. Rehydration sachets, bite cream, any cereals/formula etc you know he will tolerate as even same brands may vary the ingredients. One year our dd had so many bites it looked like chickenpox.

mindutopia · 01/05/2019 12:03

I would still recommend a sling. My youngest one is also tall and heavy and it was a life saver on the plane. Otherwise, I would have been walking up and down the aisle carrying said tall and heavy baby for 2 hours. You will also need to carry him and wait through passport control and baggage claim, so it really does make things easier. You can hire them easily for a trip.

We leave Friday and I'm working till Thursday night

I'd get some baby-friendly mosquito cream for when he's out of the pram/cot, as well as a net. We are further north and my ankles were savaged yesterday. I've never been given suppositaries in italy (France, on the other hand...) they give kids paracetamol drops instead of calpol.

Socket converters.

A sarong to drape over the buggy for shade/darkness.

Italians adore baies, it's like accompanying a VIP. But expect to be told off for underdressing him if he's not wrappped up to the nines in 30-degree heat. Smile
