Hi all!

I'm wondering what you fed your 6 month old on a day to day basis?

I'm guessing most will still be mostly bottle fed but I'm interested in the food side. How many meals and what did the meals consist of please??

Thank you!! Smile

Demand fed (bf) and offered 3 meals a day, mostly rejected

Bf on demand and had just started supplementing with some mashed carrots and peas at lunchtime.

@stucknoue see this is why I'm so confused. My LO LOVES his food, never a fan of his milk. Will eat as much food as he can get his hands on but has only ever drunk enough milk to keep him going. He's gained weight consistently since birth and is in perfect health so I know it's right for him, but I'm struggling to know how much to feed him now as so many friends with babies still love their milk and shun food ! My DDs much preferred real food and massively cut down on milk when on solids,. By age 1 both had stopped drinking milk altogether and never drank it again. They ate yogurt and cheese and had milk in cereal so calcium intake etc was all fine. All children are different. As long as your DS is getting all the nutrients he needs he will be fine. My DDs are adults now and don't appear to have been adversely affected by the lack of milk in their diet.

@UCOinanOCG thank you! You are the first person who I can relate to on this. My whole family and my friends are so shocked by how much he loves his food that I thought maybe I was doing something wrong?

Glad to know someone else has experienced this also Grin

My daughter was also a big fan of solids. I didn't really do purees but stuck to soft food at first, e.g. homemade lentil and spinach soup, ratatouille, roasted vegetables, scrambled egg, plus various things on toast (cottage cheese mixed with spinach was always a hit). I also made her a mild curry dish with lentils, coconut milk and some other bits and pieces. All eaten with great enthusiasm!

4 7oz bottles a day and porridge at breakfast, veg for tea with water to drink. She's just turned 6mo. She's going off her bottles quickly!!

Jinglejanglefish · 30/04/2019 17:11

DD has just turned 7 months.

A usual day for her would mashed banana and greek yoghurt, or a slither of toast with butter, some kind of steamed veg or fruit slices for lunch then maybe a tiny bit of what we have at dinner, more of taste than anything. She did not like purees at all so all baby led. Even with the yogurt she won't let me spoon feed her. I don't think she's ready to introduce actual meals yet.

Jinglejanglefish · 30/04/2019 17:12

And still her usual amount of milk

NeWmAmA84 · 30/04/2019 17:49

5 x bottles a day (150ml/ 200ml each) plus 2 “meals” a day, breakfast and lunch. Typically breakfast would be banana, Greek yoghurt and oatmeal perhaps with peanut butter. Lunch would be veg purée, either homemade or shop bought. Haven’t introduced meat yet but planning on doing so soon. Mostly offering purées/ slightly lumpy food, have offered finger foods but my LO doesn’t seem to get on with it yet.

My little one diet around then was
7am Bottle
7.30 porridge or toast
11am bottle
11.30 dinner, soup, sandwich, crunpet
3pm bottle
4.40 snack
5.30 tea.-whatever we are having
6pm bottle
10om bottle
2am bottle.

I done blw so all meals where what we are having and babe fed himself he's now 20 months 😍

countrymousesussex · 30/04/2019 19:37

Mine is 5 months old but weaned at 4 months on pead advice (reflux). She also only ever drank enough to keep the hunger at bay but isn’t a milk fan. Literally NEVER stops opening her mouth for purées and I have to just stop when I think she’s had enough! Just about getting 4 x 4oz bottles down her a day, but generally porridge and fruit purée for breakfast, veg purée for lunch and different veg purée and baby rice for dinner.

I suspect bottles will be dropping even more rapidly once we introduce meat etc at 6 months.

NotReadyForThisX2 · 30/04/2019 20:25

Ds is 6 almost 7 months. Still breastfed as and when he wants it, but also doing mostly blw.
I offer him three meals a day.
Breakfast: weetabix, porridge, scrambled or boiled eggs and toast, homemade banana or blueberry pancakes.
Lunch: sandwiches, omelette, pizza fingers, soup, depends on what I'm having/where we are etc.
Dinner: whatever evening meal we're having, tonight it was veggie bean chilli with pitta bread.

I don't really give him snacks as I read babies don't need them and if he's still hungry he can have breast milk when he wants it. He feeds himself most stuff so a proportion of it does end on the floor, but I give him a fair amount and also some a additional fruit or veg, he munched on some cooked carrot sticks tonight while his dinner cooled.

ImAwfulWithUsernames · 30/04/2019 21:09

Wow thank you all! I've got some new ideas to try with my LO now Smile and glad to know I'm not doing the wrong thing by doing more than 1 meal a day at 6 months old!Grin
