Why do I find baby wearing uncomfortable?

So I am on my third sling/baby carrier and thankfully this one is rented as it is again super uncomfortable. Front carrying feels like all the weight is in my shoulders and back carry feels unsupported, like DD isnt high enough.

Also are the little lite carriers any better? My baby is nearly 2 stone and 9 months old
Thanks

Once DC got to that age I found backpack carriers much better-I have the little life one and it’s fantastic. Not so practical for round the shops etc but very good for walking.

I've never found it comfortable. Now my baby is the same age and weight as yours I wouldn't even contemplate it!

Ps front carrying they need to be pretty high and carrier tight around waist rather than hips

I never got on with them at all! Blessed is the pushchair.

What kind of carrier are you using?

Properly adjusted, most soft structured carriers send the weight to your hips, not your shoulders. If you are feeling the weight in your shoulders the carrier doesn't fit and/or isn't adjusted properly.

Have you been to a sling library? Have they checked the fit and adjustment? I've carried a 3yo on my back in an SSC and it doesn't pull at my shoulders, just like a large camping backpack doesn't if it's properly adjusted.

Because your dc is 9 months and 2 stone.

It's not about age or weight. I'm still front carrying my 14mo and it doesn't pull at my shoulders. I use a Tula.

imabusybee · 29/04/2019 17:26

I use a connecta for my two - both toddlers- and dont find it uncomfortable unless I've put it on wrong. If you're renting then are you using a sling library? They should be able to help you with fitting and finding one that suits

DelphiMum · 29/04/2019 17:27

My back could never take it.

FlaviaAlbia · 29/04/2019 17:27

I'd second the advice about getting one properly fitted from a sling library. I can't carry DS on my hip as it feels like it's destroying the joint but I've no problems with him in his sling carrier. I haven't tried him on the back yet, I keep meaning to.

I've got a boba 4g that I sit just above my hips on my waistline, though I do find that unless I tighten the shoulder straps it can put the weight on my shoulders.

Mrssnowflake · 29/04/2019 17:34

Yes it was fitted by the sling people that have loaned it. Its a mamaruga and it felt ok at the time but admittedly DD was only in it for 5 minutes. Maybe i am not adjusting it correctly?
I only want it for going on walks, places inaccesible by pushchair. Thanks for all the responses

I don't know the Mamaruga directly but a quick Google makes it look like the straps and waistband are quite soft - you might get on better with something more padded like a Tula/Ergo/Boba? Did you go in person and get the chance to try multiple slings?

I would fit the waistband first and make sure it sits on your hips and is firm and tight, then tighten and slacken the shoulder straps until you can feel that most of the weight is being borne by your hips rather than shoulders. Also make sure that if there is a strap joining the two main shoulder straps, that it sits halfway down your shoulder blades. If it's higher it can really make the carrier pull on your neck.

Littlebelina · 29/04/2019 20:47

Can you photo yourself wearing it and send it to the sling people to see if they can spot anything wrong? (Ours will do this). It maybe you just haven't found the right one

If not I used a little life with DS (who was large) and found it ok but it's bulky

Mrssnowflake · 30/04/2019 15:28

Thanks maybe I'll do that. I will persavere, it may be my poor technique! Are the little life carries more for 'lets go for a hike with baby' kind of thing and the others more a lifestyle choice/attachment parenting? Instead of a pram?

You can use the little lifes day to day if you want (we often take it instead of pram, esp to places where a pram is less practicable such as London) but just be aware they are bulkier than standard slings, taller (doors can be an issue) and not suitable for younger babies (not an issue for a 9month old). I found it easy to used and it didn't give me back issues but found it a bit heavy once he hit 18month (but my husband used it for longer).

Traditional carriers tend to hold your baby closer (which is nice) and are lightweight. Bit trickier to put on (esp back carrying) and the wrong carrier (which can be an individual thing) is more likely to uncomfortable. Might just be you need to try a few more to see if you can find one)

I like both but for different things if that makes sense? Baby carrier for day to day (school run, shops, popping to groups on bus) but little life for days out. Lucky enough to have both this time round as had the little life from last time.

moreismore · 30/04/2019 23:06

I would second PP. I use the little life for walks, day at the zoo, country show, that sort of thing. They have tonnes of storage and a good rain cover so you’re set for the day. I have a baby bjorn carrier for quick trip to shops, airport, park with older DC etc. I only use baby bjorn facing me in the hip safe position. I’ve also borrowed a friends ergo and found it more comfy than the bjorn. Both have the advantage that they’re quick and easy to put on and adjust. I think at 9 months you may not get a lot of use out of it though. I’d go with the little life.
