Babies weight

Hello, I’m a first time mum and Just wondering what people’s thoughts are and if anyone has any comparisons on this...

People have commented on how big my son is since he was born and it’s now just starting to get to me a bit more than it should..

He is now 10 weeks + 5 days, he was born at 40+3 and weighed 8lb 5oz. 10 days after birth he was 8lb 8 so I’m not sure if he lost any weight he was also 53cm long.

At his 6 week check he weighed 12lb 3oz and was measuring at 59cm (91st percentile).

I’ve not had him weighed since but I’ve used my own scales by taking my own weight then bringing him on with me and working out the difference so I reckon he is now around 14lbs.

Is this too big for his age, given he was already a big baby at birth?

Feel like this is a bit silly to ask but constant comments for nearly 11 weeks are now starting to make me panic.

Thanks in advance!

How are you feeding him?

Amcg7 · 26/04/2019 21:00

He is bottle fed

I had two big babies. My first was 9lbs 1 born at 41 weeks and my youngest was 8.5lbs born at 38 weeks. Neither of them ever really looked like proper newborn babies because of their size. They never really wore the new born sizes and pretty much went straight into 0-3. Both were very tall babies and both are still very tall boys now at 6 and 4.

It's not really a cause for concern if he was born high up the centiles and is remaining roughly following the same range. What is usually cause for concern is a sudden drop if they've been high or a sudden rise if they were born small.

I would just take him to be weighed; I’m not sure how accurate how you’re doing it is and the health visitor will be able to tell you if he’s on the same percentile as his birth weight or going up.
I think the advice is regular weighing at the clinics too

I’m going to take him down on Monday to get weighed, just found out from a friend that they run a clinic. Health visitor hadn’t mentioned this!

Thank you

My little girl is 9 weeks 5 days and she is on the 95th percentile for length and 80th for weight (born on 60th). She was 7lbs 8 at birth (both at 38+2) and at the last weigh in (at 7 weeks 5 days) she was 12lbs 8. I expect she will be around 13.5 - 14lbs now. She looks older than she is but no one has questioned it. Two friends from my NCT group have babies that are very similar weights too although not as long.

Get him weighed and plotted properly. There's a curve where the weight gain slows down a bit. My OH is tall and so is our boy, we were both big babies so it only felt normal we'd have a big one too! He's one now and we still get lots of comments about how big he is (91st centile for height and weight).
