Telling me she's done a poo! Now what do I do?!?!

Hi

dd is 21 months and has begun telling me she's done a poo with a fair bit of accuracy. When she doesn't tell me and I ask if she has she'll generally say yes.

I hadn't really expected her to be so aware so early.

What do I do now! We don't even have a potty in the house.

This is my first child so no previous experience, clearly LOL.

Any advice would be appreciated.

TIA

Go for the potty!! She may only be 21 months but its definitely worth a try!

Wait IMO

She's telling you when she's DONE the poo, not before.

Its not worth rushing it.

Yes, get a potty. Leave it around . Let her sit on it with a bare bottom etc. Don't push anything. maybe look at potty books.
When she wees/poos on the floor say 'oh maybe one day you can wee/poo on the potty?'

Sorry I didn't mean force her to try but when I started potty trg both my dd's I just bought a potty and left it in the house so they just got used to seeing it - there is no point in forcing a child to use a potty - in my experience it doesn't help and if anything makes the whole experience a stressful one! As it happened my youngest dd (now 3) didn't want to use a potty and went straight to using the loo..like her elder sister!

thanks for the advice ladies.

i will invest in a potty asap! occasionally dd has sat on the loo for a very little wee.

she knows what it's all about as, due to be a lone parent, she comes to the loo with me all the time LOL.

am relieved to hear that it's time to introduce the potty and start talking about it rather than actually try to get her to use it!

definately have no intention of rushing her into anything, just wasn't expecting to do this for another 6 months or so!

21 months is quite young! I tended to bring out the potty when both of mine hit the 2.3 mark - just before they are due to start playgroup at 2.9. If she's done a wee on the loo she may even bypass the potty!

well, we got the potty. actually it seems a bit small on her tbh!

she's sat on it a bit. worn it on her head lol.

i asked her to sit on it this morning for a wee when she got up which she did but told me the toilet was for mummy wee.

she looks so cute and grown up sitting on it!

just noticed Cod's boot camp, think dd is a little small for it yet but it's good reading.

You could try putting her on the pot at regular intervals, say on waking, after meals and snacks, and before bed, but putting the nappy on in between. See how many hits you get, when you get a hit every time you can try a more intensive training. This could go on for a few weeks unless she starts to tell you in advance of weeing/pooing. As she seems so amenable, you could put her on the pot at the same time as you go to the loo as well. If she starts to resist at any time slow the pace, if not, go for it! And when you get urgent demands of "wee wee", respond instantly! Good luck!
