When did your child(ren) drop naps?

My son was 2 at the end of Feb. In the last few days, I've noticed its getting more difficult to get him to nap. However, if he doesn't have a nap, he super cranky by the late afternoon.

When did your child drop their nap? The problem is I'm nearly 35 weeks pregnant and still desperately rely on his naps to have some downtime. I'm absolutely exhausted and he's a busy child and I need that break. Plus he's cranky in the afternoon so difficult to deal with, especially when I'm floundering with tiredness myself 🤪😂

Does it sound like he could be dropping naos? I think he still needs them but is just being resistant. Heeeelp!

About 2 years 3 months. The oldest 2 had definately stopped napping by the time their younger siblings were born. My 3rd was 2 in Feb too and he’s probably has a nap about 75% of the time now but it’s definitely on its way out.

And you have my sympathy. The nap / no nap tradition is a pain in the arse and I’m very glad I don’t have to do it pregnant this time!

Oh no!! Haha, I need a nap myself.

Did you introduce quiet time instead?

Mine did about a month after turning 3, 4 weeks before her sister was born, I was gutted 😂 my is a farm kid though so always out on the go and needed that nap after a busy morning "working".

She's 4 now and since dropping her nap we always have a bit of chill time in the afternoon, a glass of milk and a story or tv show. Just for 45mins/1hr

My son did this just after he turned 2. He absolutely refused to sleep in his bed anymore and spent the whole time shouting and singing. He went a whole month and was absolutely fine without the nap so I almost dropped it. I then figured out that I could get him to nap after a half hour pram walk or car ride so I do that everyday now! Not sure if that’s any easier to do with a newborn though but I just felt that he was a bit young to not be napping and could see him looking tired by 4/5pm so I enjoy the day more when he naps for an hour or 2!

Yes, after lunch. For about 30 mins or so. The oldest 2 are 7 and 4 and they still have it now.

My son was 3 years 3 months and my now 2.5 daughter still naps about 45 mins after lunch. To be honest it was a pain that my son napped because my daughter ended up napping in the morning and afternoon and he did over lunch time- made it a nightmare to get anywhere without one of them having melt down Grin

Congratulations on your impending baby!!

DS started the process from about 2. It took a while. He’d nap some days and not others. The days he napped he’d be awake til 9pm. No nap meant a 6pm bedtime but extremely grumpy by 4/5pm. We were at maybe 2 or 3 naps a week for a while, he fully dropped them from about 2.5 as we couldn’t take the bedtimes anymore, and he was totally adjusted to no nap by age 3.

We do quiet time in the afternoon for about an hour. Really helps my sanity and I think he needs it

My DD turned 2 and stopped napping.

She tried at 2 to stop but I persevered and she then napped until 2 and a half when at home. Still naps at nursery though!
