Absent father/new boyfriend?

MamaOl · 14/04/2019 14:07

My 2 year old’s father has never been involved in my son’s life, but my new boyfriend has asked me what will happen if he gets an attachment, the ex finds out and wants to be involved and take that attachment away from my now partner?

My ex has never wanted contact with our child let me make that clear, my new partner is just concerned that he will only try to be involved if he finds out about another male being involved in my son’s life

How long have you been with your new boyfriend and how long have you been separated from you ex

MamaOl · 14/04/2019 16:02

Been separated since I was 5 weeks pregnant with my boy

How new is new boyfriend... If anything under is say 18 months I wouldn't push for a fatherly role as such let them be friends (assuming they have already met) and build from there over time.

As for ex I won't go about as to "flaunt" relationship between your ds and dp. If ex comes back onto the scene I guess you can't stop them having a relationship but it shouldn't change any relationship between ds and dp.
If ex come back on the scene the best you can go is (if safe to do so) encourage a relationship and let it build up very slowly given he has been absent all his life.

However if you haven't heard from him since you were 5weeks pregnant I doubt you have anything to worry about.

@posesinavase thank you for your advice, that all makes sense. Yeah, given we haven’t seen him since pregnancy I’m sure there is nothing to worry about, however given my history with him, I was/am nervous he will try to cause problems just because I’m in a new relationship, I wouldn’t put it past him. Don't give your ex the opportunity to cause issues. You and your dp have your own relationship don't let anyone interfere. Your ex may one day seek to be involved in your childs life but he won't be involved in your relationship.
