Holding breath

My little one has started to hold his breath when he cries. He doesn't do it all the time. Only if he is extremely upset or hurt himself. Has anyone got any tips and advice. Thanks x

My DS would do this only when he was really upset,it was like he forgot how to breath and the cry got stuck if that makes sense. We found just gently blowing on his face made him start breathing, as he got a bit older he would mostly correct himself. How old is ds? We found ours stopped doing by about 1 1/2 or before, its odd i cant remember when he stopped as it used to really worry me.

Yeh my LO does this... has since his first jabs when he was brand new.. he’s is four now. As a baby the nurse recommended blowing into his mouth to force him to catch his breath. This worked. He’s gone deahtly grey when he’s really hurt himself, the most recent was before Christmas when I fell off a slide at the playgym and winded himself.

Have a read of this www.nhs.uk/conditions/breath-holding-spells-in-children/

My little one I would say has the Reflex anoxic seizures... apparently his heart stops
Beating... there’s nothing I can do really with his as his heart will start beating again and they grown out of them eventually.

So glad to read this! 18 month old DD has done this 3 times in the last 3 weeks plus once last year. Always when she falls and has a small bump to the head (never enough to mark) so more of a shock. She cries for a couple of seconds then forgets to breathe until she faints and goes deathly pale. Quite scary to watch but each episode seems to be over with much quicker so hoping they don't last too much longer. Will try blowing into her mouth next time too and see if that helps.
