Holiday - baby will be 5 months??

Hello,

Any advice on taking a baby on holiday who will be 5 months old, it's my first baby so I really have no idea.

We have a private villa so that's good, but how do things work like pushchair, car seat, crib? Hopefully I will still be breastfeeding then so foods not that much of an issue, just worrying about the bigger stuff.

Also for 10 days, do you take nappies or buy them there? Surely we'd need a lot?

I did a 2500 mile road trip camping at that age! If you are driving it's easier as you can take what you need otherwise see if there's an option to book the essentials through the villa company or sometimes there baby essentials you can collect at the same time as the hire car at the airport. We co slept so didn't bother with cribs etc, and bought nappies from local shops but later on (at Disney) the hotel had the option of prebooking nappies which helped when you fly in on the red eye.

It'll be absolutely fine - we took 4 month old DD to Florida. We did all the parks and 2 x 9 hour flights.

It depends on the country you are going to. Cyprus has lots of companies who hire out baby equipment.

DD was 13 months when we first went away. We have always ordered nappies at the airport from boots and put them with the buggy into the buggy bag which you hand over at the gate. We also coslept as usual.

Remember to take calpol and nurofen sachets on the plane and you a sling.

If you are flying, car seat and pushchair you can take for free in checked baggage. Buy covers for them. Take a sling for the plane. You can usually request (from your villa management) or hire (from a separate company) a cot and other things you need. At that age, they aren’t usually mobile so it’s very easy to travel. I traveled with my 8 month old (alone as it was during school term) and it was fine. I’d probably bring some nappies but restock when you get there (assuming you are going to Europe or somewhere similar that would have disposable nappies in shops).

Hi!

I went to the USA when my son was 5 months old. We did New York and Miami and back to New York and we’re away for 15 days.

Pushchair. I bought an umbrella fold suitable from birth. You can check this in or take it to the plane door and it was available on the other side of plane door at the end of the flight.

We had a sling - very useful for trips out and using public transport

Nappies - I estimated how many nappies he would use a day and packed enough. Depending on the airline the baby might have their own checked allowance.

Car seat - we didn’t take with us but you can take one with you and put through checked luggage

Crib - we had one at each hotel. There are pop up bassinets that you can purchase that fold up
Small and suitable for younger babies like yours.

We have since also travelled to
Dubai with him! He was definitely more of a fidget!

Have fun!

Flying or driving? We drove to the med when DS was that age, took pram and bouncer. Nappies we expensive abroad so took enough and same with the wipes. He was Formula feed so took the prep machine too. We also had a travel cot that was in the accommodation.

Flying we’ve done when a few months older and took car seat and pram with us on the plane. Accom provided a travel cot.

If you are in a place that is quite touristy there are companies where you can rent bouncers etc from.

We took enough nappies for about 10 a day.... plus spares!

re nappies, it depends on where you're going. We travelled around Cuba when dd was 3 months old and did a longer trip around South America when she was 11 months old.

It was easy to buy nappies but they didn't seem designed for chubby European babies and we had a couple of leaks.

If you’re flying then I’d take a pushchair and then gate check it at the airplane door. Also take a baby carrier.

Car seat you’ll either need to hire one with the car or take your own. I’d probably check that in with your luggage, but make sure it’s well padded as they get thrown around

Travel cots are often provided by the accommodation. I’d take my own sheets and sleeping bags etc.

Nappies - id just take enough for traveling (so take double what you think you’d need for 2 days) and then buy some there. Don’t forget swim nappies too if there’s a pool.
