Baffled boffin needs non-baffled boffin really nappy help! Chaffing ...

Righty ho - have used cloth with all 3 ds and never had chaffing on legs before. Ds3 (12 weeks/14lbs) has had bad chaffing on the back of his thighs - he generally wears small sandys and either a onelife or rikki wrap. I have tried making the wrap tighter/looser etc etc but it got so sore I have put him in disps. It has now healed so am going back to them ... so - need to conduct an experiment to figure out whether it is the sandys rubbing or the wraps.

I was planning on using different nappies e.g. my lollipop ones/bambineos etc first with the wraps to see if it is the wraps rubbing as this will happen whether have sandys on or not. If does happen then know it is the wraps - if doesn't will try the sandys again and see what happens.

I thought small sandys lasted til about 6 months - they do still have room for growth in them. Or do you think now he is wriggling and kicking about more they are rubbing.

The rubbing was so bad he had scabs But all healed now and back to cute kissable bum

what would you do?

Could he be sensitive/allergic to the latex in the elasticky bits round the legs (I seem to remember hearing about that from someone else).

octo · 13/07/2007 20:48

Hes been wearing them for 3 months and its only just happened so don;t think its an allergy.

You can develop an allergy to anything at any point so it could be that. I found once that if the binding had got a little wet with wee and I just let it dry and reused it (sorry if that's really manky) then my ds would get a red mark round his leg (this was with an airflow).

I have found though that my ds does react to the bindings of certain wraps. He reacts to cotton bottoms, tots bots but is ok with airflows, bambino mio and I now have some cheapy junior joy ones. I found that if he just wore the wrap for a few hours he was fine it was when he had those particular brand of wraps on for the whole day that he would get sore looking marks.

Hope some of that might be of use to you.

Yes tutu - thanks. had thought maybe if the binding got damp would rub - usually wears the same wrap all day unless wet or poo on it - maybe should change wrap more often.

DS took a while before he started reacting to the bindings - he only reacts to motherease wraps.

octo · 13/07/2007 21:45

How did you know it was them? Obvious question I know - but how not another wrap or were you just using motherease and then changed?

OP posts:
FlameDelacour · 13/07/2007 21:51

I used a variety - it was only when I used the motherease overnight that I noticed it was those causing it.

octo · 13/07/2007 21:55

Thought you might use a variety

Maybe it is the rikkis then. The onelife ones are poppers aswell which adjust on the legs, which the rikkis don't - maybe that is part of it aswell.

Octo, you're an experienced cloth user so I can't see this - but - how soft are your Sandys?

Him wriggling around really should not cause a problem. I mean, babies wriggle, and we would all be in trouble if that caused these sores!

Sounds to me like: a) allergic reaction to something (powder, latex, etc) or b) not well fitting wrap, but again you know what you're doing so I think a) sounds more likely.

If you have any concerns about it being a latex allergy then get him tested properly at the docs, as latex allergies can range from mild skin reactions to very severe AS reactions so it needs checking.

Def try changing the wrap more often. I usually recommend ever 2-3 changes even if it's not soiled.

octo · 14/07/2007 12:57

Thanks Makesachange - I have him in a bamboo nappy and rikki atm - about to go and change so will see if there are any marks. I might change the wrap at every change for the next few days and see if it helps.

No marks - now sandys and rikki ...

OP posts:
octo · 14/07/2007 16:20

The sandys left a mark round his legs - the rikkis haven't. Still in a rikki but have moved onto a lollipop microfleece one. Will change wrap after next change to see. doesn't seem to be the rikki though.

I am so sad - talking to myself in cyberspace about my ds3s nappy changes

octo · 14/07/2007 16:34

Ah - someone is out there!

ds3 now yeeling - must go.

Am verging on buying a set of medium fuzzis!

fleece or wool wraps might be another thing to try?

FlameDelacour · 15/07/2007 21:45

Do the wool, do the wool....
