1 year vaccines reactions and holiday

Hi all. Lo turned 1 last week and had an appointment for his jabs in two weeks time however I'm working so I've had to change the appointment. I've had to change until end of May as that's all they had but we go on holiday first week of june. Looking online it says they can get swollen glands and fever 3 weeks after which could be when on holiday and I don't really want him being ill when away. I also am fully aware how important the jabs are and I'm not suggesting I leave my lo without protection. Just looking for perhaps reassurance that the effects didn't last too long with others or whether anyone delayed theres?

So the 1 year ones tend to cause an immediate reaction and then a further reaction 10-14 days later. My first had no reaction at all. My 2nd has a horrible reaction (developed irritable hip syndrome within hours of the jab - couldn’t roll or walk for about 48 hours, literally couldn’t move his legs, screaming in pain every time we moved him at all, I spent most of the night just sitting up holding him).

Then he got a post viral rash and just really wasn’t right from about day 10, for maybe 4 days (waking up screaming, obviously uncomfortable, inconsolable for 4 hours, normally he sleeps very well so this was really unusual).

Personally, I would plan to do them after you return unless you are traveling anywhere that is high risk for measles right now. I’m as pro vax as can be (I’m a health scientist), but it was probably the most traumatic thing I’ve experienced with my ds.

Thanks for your reply. We're not going abroad only to Cornwall however its quite a drive to the nearest walk in centre or hosp which could be tricky and of course if we're away and he becomes unwell it could be quite tricky. I'm sure children like the rest of us just want their home comforts when ill. Also a lot of family are going who will no doubt want to play and take him out and if he's feeling unwell he's going to be very clingy. He always is when he's not feeling well

My son was unwell 3 weeks after his 1 year vaccinations, high temperature and generally lethargic etc. We were on holiday at the time but were in the UK and the weather was rubbish so just relaxed in our cottage. If you are going abroad I'd be tempted to delay until after.
