Help cutting nails!

Anyone got any advice for cutting fingernails and toenails. My little one used to be fine with it, but now she's bigger (4 years old) she screams and begs me not to do it. Unfortunately she has inherited her dads toenails that curl under and need cutting to prevent ingrowing nails. I'm stuck what to do as I've tried everything from love and bribery to being strict and matter of fact with her. Nothing works. I don't think pinning her down (which is all that's left to try) would do anything except traumatise her for life!!! Any ideas welcome. Or I think I will have to take her to a foot specialist just to cut her toenails:(

These nipper clippers transformed nail clipping with my son. The little window means it was easier & therefore quicker.

If your DC likes having feet tickled - I have one that does and one that doesn't - then filng can help. The little s bend file is great.

Oh and our best bribe remains nail polish.

Hi. I had similar problem when my dd was little. I invented the toenail fairy.....told her she was tooth fairie's cousin!! If dd let me but her nails she'd deffo leave her a litttle treat in exchange for the little nail clippings....but she had to hunt for it!. Kind of turned the whole hellish experience into something fun and magical...what little girl doesn't live a fairy!! I'd hide a little 99p bit of tat and a choc somewhere not too hard to find in anticipation of her co-operation. Worked a treat!!

But= cut....live= love!!

Fantastic ideas. Have tried chocolate bribes but having a fairy deliver might just do it! And will look at alternative clipper. Thanks so much.

Do it when she's asleep, OP!

FelixTitling · 09/04/2019 17:00

Whatever is a massive treat and also a distraction . For us, at that time, it was the ipad, theyd only just come out really.

Is she ticklish? I had to use a very firm grip with DS his feet are so ticklish is painful. He couldn't really tell me this till he was quite a lot older, so I'd assumed it was fear!

Favourite cartoons on tv works a treat for me. And a packet of crisps to keep fingers busy while toes are cut.

AppleJuiceFlood · 09/04/2019 17:04

Would second the suggestion to do it when they are asleep!

doozer42 · 09/04/2019 17:23

I could try when she's asleep but they are so curved it's very hard to cut them when I can see clearly!😖
It is mostly hard due to her being so ticklish it seems to hurt her. We will try the new clippers (bought them-thanks for the suggestion) and fairy.

TV on phone for 5 minutes got us through a tough clipper refusing phase.
