She has to sleep eventually surely?!?

I must have only had about 20 minutes sleep last night as 5 week old DD kept stirring so I was on high alert in case she needed feeding etc. Since 12 she has not slept for more than a few minutes and has been really restless & cranky all day. I tried napping during the day but she’s been screaming with DH,

Whenever I try to put her down she wakes up.

Help me get through the night and tomorrow!

So hard! I’ve found with my 2 DC that they’ll sometimes do a crazy day or two of constant feeding, followed by a day or two of being really sleepy for longer stretches. I’m hoping for your sake that you’ll get a day’s “break” tomorrow! Also, sleep often starts to improve in newborns around 6 weeks.

... do try to also remember though that newborns are noisy sleepers! As long as your baby is in a safe sleep environment, you need to give yourself permission to sleep through the sighs and squeaks. I know, easier said than done, but do try to give yourself that pep talk before bed!

Oh god op I sympathise. If it helps my hellish colicky newborn grew out of it about 3 months and has been a dream child ever since! Just survive. You are doing amazing. There is no right or wrong way to do this. But parenting a newborn in HARD, and that is normal, you will get through this. 👊

It does get better! 20 weeks in I can promise you will get sleep again

When your partner looks after him try to sleep through the crying ... our baby slept wonderfully on a pillow .... one of us had to stay awake to watch him but if he is quiet it might help you and your husband have turns in sleeping 💤

It’s such a tough time big hugs x x

She finally fell asleep so I managed to get in like 3 hours.

Giving her a feed atm so I hope she’ll go back to sleep quickly...

Putting her down might be your issue - ideally they'd go to sleep where you want them to stay asleep. Neither of mine would sleep in a cot/Moses basket but were fine in a sling, the pram or in bed with me where there was no transfer from falling asleep in your arms to where they'd stay asleep.

If you haven't already, I'd highly recommend a cosleeping nap even if you haven't considered cosleeping at night. Clear your bed and snuggle up with her, feeding lying down if you're BF and you want to. I had 2 under 2 and it saved my sanity!

I borrowed a co-sleeping crib from a friend. It seriously saved my sanity.
