Hi
My son is 6 months old and for about 4 days he has had yellow gunk in his eyes (sleepes as i call it). It was just in his left eye at first but wasn't too bad and now it is in both eyes and there is a lot of it the other morning i had to wipe it away so he could open his eye. I have been using cotton wool and water to wipes it. Should i phone my GP

Sounds like conjunctivitis. My 5mo has it at the moment. I had a phone appt with the gp, he wrote a prescription and left it at reception for me to collect. Easy peasy.

Sounds like conjunctivitis. Just clean and dry regularly with cotton wool and wash towels that have come into to contact with it.

My baby had it. I tried everything and in the end (unbelievably) it was cured using breast milk wiped on the eye several times a day. Worth a try if you’re breastfeeding.

Second Sosigdog.
If BF squirt some milk in the eyes prior to a feed. Works like magic.
If not, boiled cooled water on cotton ball to wipe away gunk and if it doesn't improve GP.

I bottle feed, ive been using the cooled water on a cotton ball its just getting worse, ill give the GP a phone in the morning. It doesn't help that he has a really bad cold and has just been sick everywhere and has a rash under his neck. Always everything at once.

Conjunctivitis is essentially snot in the eyes and it comes hand in hand with colds.

MadeForThis · 04/04/2019 22:46

Breast milk clears it up really fast. Do you know anyone who would donate some? You wouldn't need much.

Mokepon · 04/04/2019 22:46

Ah poor yous. Yes, see the GP, even if it isn't serious they'd always rather see you than not.
It's horrid when they are so small and can't tell you what's wrong - you just wish you could take it all for them. Hopefully he'll be on the mend soon.

Have you managed to get in touch with your gp, OP? My dd is on day 2 of the eye drops (so three doses so far) and her eyes are already looking so much better. Hope your ds is doing ok.

I've also squirted her with breastmilk a couple of times, don't know if it's helping or not!
