Watery, stinky yellow explosive poo - is this teething? I’m so worried

DD is 10 months.

One she started on solids her poo became more adult like but then over the last month / 6 weeks her poo has been explosive, 5 or 6 times per day, watery, yellow, smelly and contains chunks of undigested food.

Doctors have done a stool sample and ruled out a bug.

She’s getting nappy rash from it & I’m having to change her clothes (entire outfit) several times a day as well as washing car seat, buggy constantly.

Obviously I’m really worried about DD but also the constant outfit changes and washing is taking its toll on me.

Could this be teething? Or what else could it be?

Hi I can’t say for sure my 4 month old is teething I think as drooling , bright red cheeks and eating his hands and anything really non stop irritable etc and his pop was a little looser than normal yesterday

( he goes every few days ) I think the drool can make it a bit looser

What did the doctor say when they ruled out bug? Any other potential concerns ... do they have a good intolerance like gluten intolerant? They get bad bellies and food passes through ? X x

My son is 6 months and i went through the same, i was told it was because he is teething. He still eats his hands and can now get his feet in his mouth which is his new favourite thing to do. I wouldn't worry, if the watery nappies don't stop within a couple days i would give your health visitor or GP a call just to make sure, as every baby is different.

My son had this when he was teething. He suffered pretty badly the poor thing.

AIBU how long did it go on for?!

It was a while ago now but it definitely went on for at least a week because it lasted the whole of our summer holiday in France!

It stops as suddenly as it starts though. I never really hit on anything that helped much. You just need to dose them on Calpol and give lots of cuddles (in between nappy changes!). I really feel for them - teething sucks.

If not a tummy bug, yes, could very well be teething. It carries on until the teeth break through, usually a few days to a week or so.

My son (now 12) used to get temperature lactose intolerance after having a bug. Switching to lactose free milk for a few weeks then gently re-introducing normal milk/formula used to sort it. Be aware the poos become more solid but very greenish (well my boys did!)

That is a very long time though, up to six weeks? I'd be wondering about an intolerance or allergy.

doodlejump1980 · 05/04/2019 13:48

When my wee one had this and teething had been ruled out, we worked out it was an apple allergy.

Teething poos are in a league of their own. Lots of them, runny, mucus and clear in bits. My god do they stink as well
