This might seem like a really dumb question, but

how do you cope with the actual nappy change when using cloth?

I've finally girded my loins to try out the various nappies I've bought, and have actually only used one so far (perhaps I should have waited to ask this, in case I actually figure it out!)

When putting nappy one, I found it a real faff to try placing it under DD in the way I would with a disposable, because it seemed like the liner would not stay put. I'm thinking the ideal is to place nappy somewhere and lift DD onto it, but there;s no room to do that on the changing table. The only thing I can think of is to put clean nappy on my bed, deal with removal and cleaning, and then lift DD onto clean one. But that won't do when she becomes more active.

So, like I say, it sounds really dim of me, but what does everyone else do??

Like anything else, when something is new it is strange t deal with, give it a week and you'll be changing cloth nappies whilst your child crawls away from you

Depends what type of nappies you are using... pocket nappies are the same as disposals and can be flung around easily, whereas flat nappies take more careful handelling unless you are using a prefold belt.

What nappies have you got ?

I just slide em under like a disposable

SpongebobControlpants · 12/07/2007 13:41

I tried sliding em under, Flame, that's when the various bits seem to go a-wandering!

I have a combinaton of shaped (bambineo, tots, bumble, MEOS, little lamb) and a couple of terries (cotton and bamboo).

Tried the lamb and the bumble, plus was brave and tried a bamboo terry, which actually stayed put whilst I was tryig to put it on as well as the others did.

I think it is trial and error, but am ever anxious to know if I'm getting it somewhat right, hence the post in the first place!

Its just practice really

derah · 12/07/2007 14:49

I put the wrap with nappy on top and liner on top of that, ready between dd's legs, then lift her legs up by her ankles and plop her on top. Sometimes the liner gets out of position but I just lift her up again to get it right. Practice makes perfect! FWIW, I have trouble getting disposables on! I suppose it depends on what you're used to!!

I have my hand on top of the spread out nappy (incl. liner) to keep everything in place and then lift DD's legs and slide it under. I was convinced I would throw all my tots in the bin after coming out of hospital. We ve now been using them for 9 weeks and I wouldn't want to change a thing. Just keep trying....

I give DS a toy, it distracts him long enough to get the nappy on. Doesn't stop him "frog hopping" though

I then slide nappy under him and fight him for the tabs as toy has been chucked by now. I then slide wrap under him having recovered the toy giving me 20 seconds to complete the job.

He's quite taken with nippas at the moment so getting them on is fun

As everyone else has said, it's practice. I was hopeless to start with but I'm quicker now, giving less time for stuff to go wrong.

Good Luck
