AIBU to find it annoying when parents moan about the summer holidays?

I really love hanging out with my children every day during the holidays, and sometimes feel like I can't wait until term ends so we can spend proper time together. I try and organise activities every day and make sure everyone is having fun; I've heard lots of mums here complaining about how long they are, but I'm not sure why? Feels like quite a negative way to talk about the sunny months and spending time with your own children? Even the mums at the school gates have been complaining about Easter recently and I can't relate or understand why they see it as such a challenge.

Me too. I simply ask my darlings what they would like to do and off we pop. Wink

In real life they would say "x box" and "expensive day out" at the same time then fight to the death while I try to explain screen limits and budgets.

No SN and flexible work arrangements but still find holidays long. Love the no uniforms, no homework, watching them have fun. But the bickering, getting the housework and shopping done with the children and trying to keep them entertained can be challenging.

How many kids do you have and do you work?

I think you did this post to wind people up.

Do what the kids want to do and have fun in the same sentence? 😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣 I wish I had the money to throw at them like that but alas...I don't and wouldn't want to!

Yes. Answer: I'd like to go on xbox the entire day. Perhaps that's how you enjoy the hols so much. Leave you time to go on MN and you can totally abstain from any parenting.

I'm normally pulling my own hair out after any annual leave of more than 2 weeks as im literally bored stiff

I suspect that people who themselves get bored when not in an externally structured environment probably have DC who are similar. People who have lots of hobbies and past times are more likely to bring up DC who have lots of hobbies and past times.

Because not everyone has the money to be going out doing activities everyday.
Because for me who spends a huge amount of time already with my dd, those 15 hours a week in playschool actually give me a bit of a break.
Because some people have children who are difficult to manage out of routine.

I agree with you in a way OP. I feel very lucky to be a SAHM for a few years, and enjoy spending the holidays with my boys. I often feel sad when I hear other SAHPs complaining about spending time with their children in public or on Facebook, because those children are not stupid. They pick up on it and must wonder what they’ve done wrong.

I think you phrased it badly, sound very smug and judgy and don’t take different situations into account - most notably that many parents work and have to juggle childcare and guilt during the holidays.

That will win you no friends here. I think you knew that and were deliberately trying to piss people off.

Badwifey, even if you do have money to do stuff (luckily, I do), it's still a ballache for a whole 2/3 months. Guess I'm just a terribly ungrateful mother.🤷‍♀️

Because entertaining 2 primary ages kids in 45-50C heat, for 13 weeks isn't fun???
So, my alternative is to live out of a suitcase for some of it, away from DH, because he has to work????
