Does anyone else really struggle with first baby and constantly having visitors by the in laws all the time and having them just turn up whenever they want?

I think you need to put your foot down regarding frequency of visits/how much notice you are getting if this is bothering you. Can DH have a word and gate keep?

TinyMarie · 01/04/2019 15:19

My in-laws used to turn up unannounced when I was pregnant so I asked my partner to have a word with them and it worked.
I asked that they text me first to check it's convenient as I'm breastfeeding and needing to sleep when the baby sleeps. They can't really argue with that!

Get your partner to say something to inlaws and you mention it to your own people that they sjould text or wjatever to arrange a time to fit around sleeping etc. Most reasonable people should be fine with this.

Thank you for getting back to me everyone.
They always want to do like 6-7 in the evenings when I find it so inconvenient as I want my son to settle and myself. My partner won't say or do anything. He just thinks I'm being unreasonable. When I've had a day of screaming all day ( which is most days ) I don't feel like visitors and when my son has me up every hour. I'm just absolutely shattered all the time

Oh good god no, I wouldn't be having that. If you need the help ask for them to come over through the day - when you need it

TinyMarie · 03/04/2019 09:49

Do they even offer to help? Mine don't. They just want to pass the baby around when it suits them and don't so much as offer to make me a cup of tea when my own family live hours away.
I got to the point where I don't care if they get annoyed, if I don't want them over I tell them it's not convenient.
You need to do what keeps you sane and happy and your needs come above theirs.

Leave your partner with the screaming baby when he's off work and go to bed , see how much he enjoys unexpected visitors when he's exhausted. I'm sure it will give him a little nudge to ask people to text first Smile

Good idea I should leave my son with my partner and see how he likes it!
No they done just play pass the parcel for cuddles when he clearly doesn't like it as he screams! So frustrating!
