Mice and a baby

Having a bit of a panic here.

Saw a mouse in the kitchen a few nights back so laid some traps. Not caught anything yet. And we have been away since house hunting in a different city. Anyway today we went for a meal and then came home.. Had a play with our 10 month old for a while and then I came up to run her bath for bed. Then suddenly DP came up saying "you're gonna have to take her, I just found droppings under the coffee table!!"

The table is by the front door and in front of the electric meter cupboard which we have realised has a whole for the mice to get through. He since mentioned he looked into this because he saw a dropping on his hand whilst sat with DD. Oh and her toy box is under the coffee table too.

Now I'm in a massive panic as our DD has potentially been crawling over droppings and urine Sad Angry

Don't know what to do. I'm so scared she might have caught or will catch something. Feel like I'm gonna have to get her dressed in the bedroom tomorrow morning and then leave the house until its sorted but I don't know where to go. And it's such a mammoth task to get everywhere cleaned and decontaminated. We're hoping to move house soon and need to declutter as there is crap EVERYWHERE. We don't have a car to go to the tip. I'm so stressed.

Any advice or a hand hold would be appreciated Sad

Don’t panic.

Have been there (old house in middle of fields) many times.

Pull everything out, do a good clean tonight while she’s sleeping, and get pest control in tomorrow.
If you haven’t noticed droppings in kitchen etc. you might not be overrun and the problem might be very contained.

Don’t worry about baby getting sick- it’s not ideal but catching diseases from mice in this way, in the uk, is vanishingly rare.
In a years time she’ll be playing outside where mice, rats, bats, birds, cats, hedgehogs etc etc are roaming- as we did when we were kids... and she’ll be fine then too.

Take a deep breath- clean. Pest control. Don’t panic.

@TheSheepofWallSt

Okay, thank you! I read not to hoover but shall I just do that? Not sure how else to clean up. We did notice some droppings in the kitchen they're getting in through the cupboard under the stairs. We heard them this time last year in the ceiling and then another time saw our cat fussing as if there was one in the kitchen. But we don't have the cat anymore so I'm wondering if that's why the issue has escalated it's a really old house with holes all over Angry gonna have to ring the landlord in the morning and see if they can call out pest control. Really can't afford it ourselves Sad

Should have specified they're also getting through the cupboard under the stairs, which is in the kitchen.. Saw droppings in there last spring but didn't have any issues since, until now of course.

Yeah they say don’t hoover because apparently you can inhale microbes or whatever? But what else are you to do?! Damp dusting good for surfaces and bitter experience says you should make sure you look in the sofa Envy (not envy)

And .... Get another cat.

It's so frustrating as we're literally planning on moving in a couple of weeks!!! ARGH!

Are you definitely moving in a few weeks? As in, place lined up?

If so I'd probably be able to tough this out by spending a lot of time upstairs. Yes to treating downstairs where you can but if you're definitely off - and soon - you can cope
