Hi. A friend of mine has just given birth and is not sure about dos and don'ts of parenting a young child , as what she should expect with regard to the baby, such as is it ok to do such and such a thing? Can anyone recommend a book that might give her advice. Something light.

I liked the commando Dad book. Her HV is a good person to speak to and tell her to sign up to MN.

Jackshouse Thank you for your recommendation. Her HV has not been.much help.

It's a bit hard to advise without knowing what kind of questions she has...? No book can answer every possible question.

With a newborn you really just need to focus on keeping baby in clean nappy and clothes, cuddled, safe, and fed enough milk on demand.

Why not suggest she joins Mumsnet and either searches on her questions or starts her own thread and asks them directly.

You usually get given the NHS 0-5 book when pg tbh most info is in there

Jackshouse · 30/03/2019 11:22

I was not given that book.

It will depend what sort of questions she has really. No book will cover every aspect of parenting.

And all books have different approaches too.

I like Penelope Leach 'Baby and Child'. Covers child.development from pregnancy to 5 years old.
