Toddler plays better I'm out the room

Hi,

Just wondered if anyone else has found this.

When I'm in the room with DS (20months) he doesn't really play and mostly just whinges at me.

However if I leave the room to cook tea or something he'll play by himself merrily.

It's almost easier to leave him to
It but then I feel like I'm being a rubbish parent for leaving him on his own. He just seems so much more content.

He's very social when we're at playgroups or visiting. He will happily play with other kids/adults. It just seems to be a me thing.

Anyone else?

Be happy to have a DC that can occupy themselves at such an early age.
You do not need to entertain him constantly. It so much easier and a lot less stress for all concerned when children find resources for entertainment in themselves.
Supervise from a distance, give encouragement and a stimulating environment when needed.
Enjoy!

Sounds like a positive to me! It might all change in a couple of months OP so I'd enjoy it now!

I’d make no apologies for letting any child happily get on with spending time alone. Children don’t need their parents 24/7.....thank god!

Thanks everyone, you've made me feel better about ditching him. I'll make the most of it while he's happy
