Baby weaning questions

Alicia870 · 27/03/2019 13:05

Hey all just in the process of weaning 6 month old and I think I'm getting myself too wound up with trying to do it the ' right' way. I have an Annabel Karmel book I'm following and have been cooking from scratch most meals but also use some sachets of pure ingredients with no nasties. But is it ok to give a 6 month old baby porridge and things like weetabix or is t better to stick to veg? I don't want her to just get used to sweet fruits but find r hard to know what to give for breakfast if it's not fruit! Thanks in advance

Perfectly fine. Everything in moderation :) it is good for babies to have a balanced diet. My boy has a bit of everything (mainly) that I have. Only things to avoid are honey until 1, nuts until 5 and lots of salt (more than 1g per day).

Enjoy it's so much fun :)

Yep go for it. As above, babies can eat most things as long as you’re careful about salt and sugar (and no honey/whole nuts). Also, what I hadn’t thought of when I weaned my first, is there’s no reason baby needs traditionally breakfast type food at breakfast...you could decide to give veg sticks or whatever in the morning if you wanted. Hope it goes well.

I've given our LO a piece of fruit as part of breakfast every day since we started, doesn't seem to have put him off spinach! Porridge and weetabix are great, just make sure you clean up straight away. Porridge fingers are good for finger foods/blw.

Hey there momma I've tagged you in our getting started file to help you. Basically babe shares your meals with you. With expections of
❌honey and foods containing honey
Unpasteurised foods
Raw sprouts
Raw or uncooked foods such as eggs, meat and seafood
Obvious choking hazard.

No purée just same meals as you

Weetabix, shreddies, toast, croissants, crumpets, toasted t-cakes, boiled or scrambled eggs, bagels with cream cheese...lots of stuff is fine from 6 months. My youngest had the odd handful of cherrios on her tray too. Obviously my pfb had nothing of the sort!

Plain Greek yogurt is good for breakfast.

normal porridge as it has no added salt or sugar (no need to buy specific baby porridge).

American style pancakes
