Right way to do bottles!?

Hi,

I was planning on giving my baby room temp bottles... so on a morning I would boil a kettle full of water and then fill the bottle up with it throughout the day and add the powdered milk as and when the baby wants it. This is what my mum did with my and a few of my friends seem to do as it seems the easiest way.

Midwife said to me this used to be the way but it has now changed as they've worked out the powdered milk is not sterile so needs to have a boiling shot of water added to the milk before use. What does everyone else do?

Perfect prep machine at home, ready made when out

Rrady mades first few months then pre made 1 or 3 bottles a time. The water must be hot enough to sterilise the water. Ideally bottles should be made fresh but i cooled them quickly in cold water if storing in fridge. Never store at room temp or use water that's too cool.

The water has to be hot enough to sterilise the milk powder and then the bottle can be used for the next 2 hours. Check the instructions on your box of powder. If you are making a 6 oz bottle, you could mix the powder with 3 oz boiling water and then top up with cold water (this is effectively what the perfect prep machine does).

In any case - read the box.

You need boiling water to sterilise the powder. The box has the advice on how to safely make a bottle. I used a perfect Prep and ready made bottles as all that water boiling and cooling was too much like hard work!

Water needs to be about 70c, hot enough to kill the bacteria in the milk but not boiling as it damages he nutrients. Either make up the bottles in the morning by boiling the kettle and waiting 10 mins, then flash cool, store in the fridge and reheat as needed or buy a prefect prep.

I make up a bottle of boiled water which I put in the fridge each morning. Then make up each bottle fresh with 90ml boiling water and 10ml cooled water, then the powder, then top up with the cooled water so it's the right amount and temp. Basically a perfect prep method but I do it myself.

Also used perfect prep machine - life saver!
When out for the day or at relatives house I would have two thermal flasks, one with boiling water and one with cooled pre boiled water (red one for hot, blue one for cold - each rinsed with boiling water to sterilise before filling) and basically replicate the prep machine - for 6oz I’d do 2 oz hot and 4 oz cold, DD never had tummy issues.
Once she got to 6 months and could have water from the tap I’d boil the kettle for the hot 2 oz and top up with cold tap water xx
