Hi all.
My 14 month old has been puking since yesterday night and all night he was vomitting everywhere, he cant keep any fluids down not even a sip of water from his beaker. I tried him with just dry cereal this morning but it came straight back up. I am worried about him being dehydrated. When i changed his nappy this morning after he had it on since 11pm last night it had urine in but not as much as usual, but obviously thats normal without him drinking. He did have really bad diarrhoea a few days ago which lasted a couple of days and now his bowel movements are hard again. I rang my doctors this morning who said that they have no apps and to take him to a walk in centre but he seems fine in himself he is acting his usual self. Just being sick every time he has food or drink. My mom said they cant do much for a sickness bug & to keep him at home. Any advice?

Hi OP. In your situation, I would take him to the walk in centre. Agree with your mum that they might not be able to do anything for a sickness bug, but they will be able to advise you on possible dehydration, which I'd be really concerned about if he can't even keep water down, especially following a period of diarrhoea.
I hope he makes a speedy recovery.

I’d go to a walk in too. With our local centre if you ring 111 they’ll make you an appointment at the walk in so you’re sitting waiting for ages.

Stop giving him food for now. It's liquids that you need to concentrate on.

I personally at this stage if he's bright and alert wouldn't take him anywhere he could infect anyone but I would pop into a chemist and ask for hydration advice.

If he is bright in himself I wouldn't bother with walk in either.
Don't give food.
Try a tiny amount of water every 15 mins - just half a teaspoon or so. Use a syringe if it's easier. Anything more than that will likely make him sick. Gradually increase the amount as he manages to keep more down.

Try using electrolytes. They worked well when my DS had D&V and issues with proper hydration. The advise we got in the past is that as long as he drinks a bit and has a even lightly wet nappies then it is fine. Personally I would call 111 to be on a safe side.

I’d call 111 and take him to the walk in. Dehydration is a real risk at that age. It’s wise to get him checked over and make sure he’s drinking and weeing.
