Cranial osteopathy

Does anyone have any experience with cranial osteopathy for newborns? My 3 weeks old DS is really unsettled and I am considering taking him for treatment but would like to hear if it's worked for anyone else first?

Yes, it can be really effective if the problem is a structural one. My dc2 had torticollis (a stiff neck due to positioning in the womb). He couldn’t turn his head one way and had a lot of probably painful tightness in the soft tissue in his neck and upper back.

It was really effective and I could see a huge difference in his range of motion after each appointment. It took 3 appointments. My GPs advice was “just wait it out and he can wear a helmet if it causes a flat head”!! Not helpful.

I don’t think it’s a magic cure all, but where the problem is clearly linked to an osteopathic issue, yes, can make a huge difference.

Yes it can much huge improvements, doesn't work for all babies as it depends on the problem, certainly won't do any harm!

It's some sort of wizardry! No idea what they do or how it works. My new 9yo dd was back to back, turned on delivery and couldn't turn her neck. She had an awful flat head. A few sessions and she could move it from side to side.

My friend took birth her babies because they were born via c section. They were both criers but it did calm them down.

Research one in your area or a little further afield who has a lot of experience with babies. By far its the best money I've spent x

My son was ventouse and did a lot of screaming. At the first session, the practitioner worked his magic and my weeks old son stopped screaming mid scream. It was astonishing.

Had another 3 or 4 sessions for completeness but that first session basically fixed it.

I took both my boys as they were very unsettled babies. First one I didn't notice much of a difference, but with baby 2 after about 2 mins of her touch he just started burping and letting off for the whole session. The deepest biggest burps like he'd never done before it was so funny/strange.

After that he just felt a lot more relaxed, he would just hang like a bag of spuds in my arm rather than be all tense and using his back and and core head like before. We had 3 sessions.

It didnt cure his night drama completely but he also had torticolis and I'm sure it helped that although we were also doing physio for it.

Soo to summarise (sorry) I think it depends on the baby but also on the osteopath. It can't hurt to give it a try!

Wouldn’t hurt to try but it doesn’t work for lots of babies and is expensive. I took DD to two sessions when she was between 4 and 6 weeks old, she did start bringing wind up a bit better I have to admit, but it didn’t help with the crying.

I used it for my son when he was about 8 weeks old and it was amazing!!! He’d had issues with his neck which were soon fixed.

It cost me about £35 for the first hour long session and then about £25 for each subsequent 30 minute session.

Thank you all for your responses, I've booked in a session x

Worked miracles for my ds1 who was very unsettled and bad colic. He had a really stiff neck from a forceps delivery which I think was partly to blame for the grumpiness. We had 2 osteopath sessions and he was like a different baby (and neck was fixed) he was transformed from a red faced, screaming nightmare to a lovely, sunny little baby and he has been amazing ever since. Saved my sanity and would gladly have paid x100 what I did for it!
