DS2 has the pox. He's a really easy kid really, and is easy today, so far, despite the pox. But we can't leave the house. WE CAN'T LEAVE THE HOUSE!

Well, we'll have to go pick up DS1, but still ... we need to keep all that to a minimum, as he's v contagious today, and really will be contagious for the rest of the week.

He's not really poorly, just very very spotty. He's watched TV, had a bath, played with lego, and is back on the TV now.

I on the other hand am going completely batshit. I want to leave the house!

I'll try to get domestic stuff done, maybe bake a cake, too. but aaaargh. I just want to go out!

We sorta have a garden, but it's a front one, and I don't garden, really.

He's been ok today, it's me that's Gone Wrong. Off to get DS1, anyway, at least that'll get me some exercise.

I'm rubbish at feeding them at weekends and at explaining how engines work and at putting train tracks together.

lunalovegoodasgold · 12/07/2007 23:55

Pretty poor at delivering clean children to nursery or school. Sometimes when I kiss them goodbye I give them a quick lick. dd1 does not like this and licks me back. dd2 (16mths) loves it and chuckles.

Am crap at keeping ds's face clean - he's usually sporting a bit of food around his chops and down his T-shirt.

Bedtime teeth cleans only in our house; the morning one just doesn't seem to happen.

Keeping consistently tidy and organised - nope, can't do.

Being on time - we are always late, and I do hate that.

Am a bit fed up with racing cars across kitchen floor. Ds plays with these loads, and always first thing in the morning. I can manage just a few minutes of faked enthusiasm before making breakfast.

Great at building train tracks and Lego, though; rough and tumble; stories. And puppets. Cuddles. And negotiating ...

i suck at routine and order, it just doesnt happen in this house.

GryffindorGHOSTY · 13/07/2007 06:02

I am not good with um puke (sorry Cali)
And I am totally and utterly crap with any kind of arty crafty kids stuff ... hate getting play dough and paints out ... can just about handle pencils and crayons ...
I am dreading the time when DD gets into all that girly beads and necklace making stuff. Yawn.

Leati · 13/07/2007 06:06

My kids all had to be vaccinated for chicken pox. It is required by law here. Anyway, I think the last time I saw someone with Chicken Pox was over 14 years ago.

The domestic chore I most suck at is being around sick kids. I am a sympathy pewker.

GryffindorGHOSTY · 13/07/2007 06:43

Required by law? Why?

slinkyjo · 13/07/2007 09:04

my girl has got pox to n its driving me mad, she has been off all week and her spots seem to be taking forever to dry out. What i dont understand though is why you cant take them to school? if i understand it right chicken pox is infectious for two weeks before the spots come out? so surely all the other kids would have caught it all ready lol

Elibean · 13/07/2007 09:15

softplay and baby music class type things. Hate hate hate.

FirenzeandZooey · 13/07/2007 09:22

I am not very good at

"Mummy let's play lost puppies. You be the mummy and do this and say this and go there and then laugh. Now do it again."

peggotty · 13/07/2007 09:26

I'm rubbish at 'playing' in general and I feel terrible about it. I find it so boring and my dd probably watches far too much tv as a result of my crapness.

Tutter · 13/07/2007 09:27

supervising effective teeth brushing

looking interested in brio after 30 seconds

baking

any kind of cooking in fact

choosyfloosy · 13/07/2007 09:28

Any form of play with a child under 2 years.
Cleanliness of any sort.
Breastfeeding.
Floor play (unless it's a jigsaw which I like) - I can manage 4 minutes if I really try. This is improving very slowly as ds gets older.
Imaginative play. I have no imagination.
Gardening. I am rubbish at it myself so am clueless as to what a 3 year old can do in this area. We usually settle on using Dangerous Tools so that lasts about 3 seconds due to the panic factor.
Ensuring that ds has the correct clothes for situations that are not immediately current, e.g. shoes rather than wellies for school later, sun hat if it might get hot, cardy if it might get cold etc.
Not losing things.
Putting ds's interests first.
Displaying interest in animal-based days out.
Limiting telly.
Toe and fingernail cutting.

This could be much longer.

Cloudhopper · 13/07/2007 09:29

I'm not very good at the being patient, listening caring side. I think I am a bit too bossy.

I will probably end up with well-disciplined children that hate me!

And the housework, cooking, making sure clean clothes are ready practical things.

On the bright side I like the creative, exciting imaginitive and play stuff.

By the way NQC - are you sure you have to stay in the house all day? I would definitely get out for at least a walk to the park or even round the block. Most people want their children to get the pox young, don't they?

brandnewhelsy · 13/07/2007 09:29

Hate going to softplay and standing aound grinning at other parents. And they always have sticky floors. The softplays, not the parents.
Don't mind playing. Prefer mumsnet

peggotty · 13/07/2007 09:29

Choosyfloosy I feel better now, you sound a lot like me

AbRoller · 13/07/2007 09:41

lol FaZ

Our mental torture game is
DD: I one(won) a cat
Me: I two a cat
DD: I three a cat
Me: I four a cat
DD: I five a cat
Me: I six a cat
DD: I seven a cat
Me: I eight(ate) a cat
DD: you ate a ca-at, you ate a ca-at

It was cute and funny seeing her giggle having got one over on me but she's now got about 137,846 over on me and it just isn't funy anymore

choosyfloosy · 13/07/2007 09:52

brilliant idea re cp based play

when ds gets cp i will put a red flag out of the window to indicate that any cp child can come in

Leati · 13/07/2007 10:20

I have no clue why chicken pox vac is required by law but it is along with all the rest of vaccines. The new ones they have now are a booster for the first chick pox, hep A and B, and then the HIB vac for girls. Honestly, I think all vacs are required by law here.

Acinonyx · 13/07/2007 12:43

I can't stand being in the house with dd all day - drives be totally batty. I feel guilty about feeling bored and trapped with my precious one though. I love to hear that other mums can't stand it either.

I feel totally inadequate when I see what dh can do with her megablocks and I'm just not really into physically rough play. No wonder he is The Preffered Parent.

I should probably keep dvds on a tighter ration but oh, the bliss of the ensuing peace.

Dd had the pox last Jan - oh so, so boring. We did go out a bit though - just among strangers rather than infecting friends. Jill

LindzDelirium · 13/07/2007 13:49

I am crap at doing any kind of craft or paint based activity with DD, it's the thought of clearing up I can't stand. I more likely to say "lets play with your cars/trainset"
