Took bars down from cotbed - no sleep

We have a toddler nearly 2.5 years old who hasn't been sleeping well so we took the bars down from her cotbed and gave her duvet and pillow, taking away sleeping bag. She loved the look of it but couldn't get yo sleep and then kept kicking the duvet. She then spent most of last night waking after getting out the cot. At 6am we caved and took her to our bed to sleep. Can anyone tell how you deal with this??? We thought she'd sleep through the night as she was saying she didn't like the cotbed before! I'm having another baby soon and think we are going to be awake the whole night.

I just used to keep the room warm enough (or made sure they wore warm enough PJs) that mean it didn't matter if they kicked the sheets off in the night. My dc didn't have many toys in their rooms at that age and all cupboards etc were secured to the wall so the room was safe. They had a safety gate on the door so they couldn't escape. I just used to leave them to it if they got out of bed and let them sleep on the floor if that's what they preferred and they were happy enough. After a few weeks the novelty wore off and they stayed in bed.

We had this. Ds wouldn't stay in bed at night, we kept having to return him. It must have worked eventually because he's still alive today Grin. DH said we should have put a lid on the cot bed rather than removing the bars.

The Gro clock worked for us.

Yes definitely think we need a lid on the bed for her! We have the safety gate and no toys, just teddy. She gets out and cries and screams til we go in. I looked at the gro clock but read a lot of reviews saying that even after the dimmest setting its quite bright, lighting up the room?

First I'd try putting her back in a sleeping bag. There's no need to not use one just because she's in a bed and it might help if she's getting cold.

Then I'd try rapid return, so no taking, just straight back to bed with no interaction everytime she gets up.

Failing that just out the cot back up so she can't get out! You're allowed, it's not a one way thing! Smile
