14 month old sleep/naps

Hello! I need some advice on my 14 months old son. So my son goes to bed at 7-7:30pm and sleeps through the night and wakes at 5-5:30am then he has a nap 8-9am for around 2 hours and then he has a second nap around 2-3 for about an hour but recently his morning nap has shortened and has been refusing or struggling with his second nap, so I've decided he is now ready to change to 1 nap a day. So now he will go to bed at 7pm wakes at 5am going down for a nap anywhere from 10am - 11am but he will only nap for an hour max is this enough sleep? I've seen most babies at this age are sleeping 12 hours a night and still napping for 2 hours. I'm just not sure he is getting enough sleep. Also tonight I'm planning on trying to bring his bedtime to 6pm to is that helps. Thanks in advance xx

That sounds like your son is getting plenty of sleep. My 15 month old DD usually sleeps 7pm-6am/7am and naps around 10.30am for around an hour. Xx

Early morning naps are actually one of the things that can exacerbate early morning wakings. If I were you I'd push the morning nap on to between 10-11 (wherever you feel he's ready for it and not overtired) and let him have as long as he likes. Then try to stick to 6.30-7pm for bedtime.

Once he's in the habit of this nap I'd push it forwards by 15 mins a day until it's starting around 12-12.30. Hopefully what you'll find is that after a while he will start to sleep longer because he'll be napping after lunch rather than before (so won't be waking up from hunger). It will hopefully also help with the early morning wakings. I'd say it's the early morning you want to put a stop to rather than bringing his bedtime to 6pm!

Yes, I’d do early lunch at 11.30 then nap. Should help the early morning. Early naps reward early waking.

ShayCB I have no advice for you but my DS is exactly the same as yours although he's 16 months. I am trying to get him onto one nap so reading with interest!

I'd be very happy to say good bye to 5.00am wake ups and I'm currently spending most of my day trying to get him to nap or waiting for him to wake up so we can go out... Hmm

I found the single nap started out really short (max 1 hour) then lengthened to 2-3 hours after he got used to it. Also it gradually got later, was originally around 10:30/11 and now (age 3) is at 1:30 if he takes one.

Can you get rid of the early morning nap and he has a lunch time nap. We moved my boy from two naps to one.

But his sleep is totally different as he doesn't wake til 9.30

Thank you everyone who commented I have started putting him down about 10-11am and gradually moving it to 12-12:30pm I did try him at 6 last night and he did sleep a little longer than normally I think I will keep his bedtime 6pm for now until his nap has moved too 12-12:30 then move it back to 7-7:30. Thank you all for your help xx

My dd is 14 months and there is no way she could go that long between waking up and napping.

Weekdays when she goes to nursery She sleeps 7-7 all night with no wake ups, morning nap is at 10 for 2hrs then nap at 3for 1.5hrs then bed again at 7.

Weekends at home she sleeps 7pm-8am, then morning nap at 11 for 2hrs and nap at 4 for 1hr then bed at 7
