They don’t need much at that age, ‘food’s for fun until they’re one’ is a phrase I’ve come across a lot (I was the same, don’t worry!)

Sickoffamilydrama · 22/03/2019 21:19

Just feed her when you eat.
I've sometimes been busy like on a day out and time has slipped away so not changed them for hours but never not fed my kids.
It's the kind of thing my anorexic MIL does so I'm wondering what's your relationship towards food?

Mommaxx · 22/03/2019 21:19

@PippilottaLongstocking thank goodness she's drank her bottles 5 times a day but I can't help worry it messes her up or something if she doesn't have it x

Just realised that sounded harsh, didn't mean it to be.
At her age they don't take much in more play with it in their mouth usually spitting most of it out, she got to learn to chew and swallow which takes time so I doubt not feeding her is a major issue.

TooMinty · 22/03/2019 21:25

Did you remember to feed yourself? Make sure you take care of yourself with regular meals and just give her a bit of whatever you are having at the same time. But milk is more important at that age. And if she was hungry you'd know all about it!

Mommaxx · 22/03/2019 21:25

@Sickoffamilydrama I don't mean I never feed her but I'll give her porridge in the morning for eg and forget to then give her something before bed but every time I do offer she shakes her head most times so I don't know if an 8 month old can sign no that way, clearly can? So I leave it But today I was so stressed with Personal issues I forgot and feel terrible but I've offered some and she doesn't want it? And what do you mean about my relation to food?x

Mommaxx · 22/03/2019 21:28

@Sickoffamilydrama no it's ok I know what you mean I think, I eat but I get that tired sometimes I'll admit I do forget to eat I may have a snack and realise wow through out the day I've had a sandwich! But I'll cook jacket potatoes etc for my lo I just forgot today and a few days ago and I felt bad thinking about it x

@TooMinty yeah I do thank u x and I cook her meals sometimes but she doesn't really want solids all the time she refuses but she is having 5 bottles a day 7oz

Just keep offering her food, she'll get the hang of it soon. When she turns one you can cut back on milk a bit and offer food first but I wouldn't worry too much yet. You don't need to make food specially for her, just share yours as long as it isn't too salty.

Mommaxx · 22/03/2019 21:36

She doesn't seem keen on eating solids if I am honest even when I do offer her them x

I asked about food because of experience with my MIL & SIL who have forgotten to feed the kids or have stretched it to really late 3/4pm for lunch because they don't eat I assume they've suppressed their appetite so much over the years, they forget other people get hungry.
My mum forgets to eat but for a different reason because she's chaotic.
Because I came from a chaotic household I struggled with timings for my first so did a loose routine which really helped me not to get so busy that I eat lunch really late.
It might be that you need a bit of a routine so that you remember to eat yourself and just give little one food to play with, I did baby led weaning with mine and it really is amazing how if they sit with you when you eat how quickly they pick up that they should be eating can remember my DS copying me chewing it was so adorable and few days later he grabbed my toast and took a bite, chewed and swolled.

Mommaxx · 22/03/2019 22:28

@Sickoffamilydrama it's ok honestly you were just asking a question, I did think at first oh no does she think I don't eat? Aha but yes. I do. And I'd love it if my dd did that! But she doesn't seem to have much interest? Tbh I'm still unsure what she can or can't have I mean can she have tuna at this age? Etc? Literally anything as long as it isn't salty and what they say not to give?

I have mine anything really, I know some day no allergens but I'm very scientific and read some studies on other cultures weaning particularly Japan who give children a wide variety of foods including nuts and have way less allergy's than the West.
I just used common sense things like a stick of broccoli, some toast soliders, yoghurt be prepared for the mess though and paying with food.I also exaggerated my chewing when I thought of it and they are watching so they'd copy. I kind of think evolutionary wise it makes sense they didn't have a blender in caveman times or until very recently so babies must have evolved to copy us eating.

Sickoffamilydrama · 22/03/2019 23:13

Arggh typos I gave mine and I know some say

PippilottaLongstocking · 23/03/2019 09:46

Just want to add that my boy wasn’t really interested in food til about 10 months anyway then he just suddenly ‘got it’ and now eats non stop!

RayaJambalaya · 23/03/2019 22:26

I still do this sometimes and my DD is 10 months. I don't eat on a schedule so it's hard to remember sometimes! Plus I'm doing baby led weaning and sometimes it's not something healthy enough for her! Blush I'm a bit better at it now but it's still tricky!
