Clinical psychologists - does it help?

Please can anyone shed any light on what an assessment with a clinical psychologist entails? My 9 year old DD has struggled socially at school and they have also noticed a lack of focus in class. Unsure if this is because of social issues or some deeper attention issue. My main concern is her happiness and want to see her thrive. I am concerned an assessment may label her and further make her feel singled out. However I am keen for an assessment as it might identify what the deeper issues are and how we can support her . Pls help!

I am concerned an assessment may label her and further make her feel singled out. Equally a diagnosis may helpnher to understand why she is like she is and enable you both to access support networks.

Is this different from an Educational
Psychologist?

Is she getting a CAHMS referral?

I'm guessing they are assessing to see if she might have dyslexia, dyspraxia, adhd or autism.

I have dyspraxia- it would have been massively helpful to have been assessed for this as a child. A diagnosis doesn't have to be a negative thing

If it's a clinical psychologist, it'll not likely be an assessment for dyspraxia or dyslexia. Maybe ASD but if it's through CAMHS it'll be looking at a range of potential causes for the issue and thinking about next steps in terms of treatment or further assessment.
