Temperature- which ear?

My DD is 3 and has a cold with an on off temperature.

I tested it twice before her bed and Ear One said 37 (yippee) but Ear Two said 38 !

She felt warmish, but not horrific. I have put her to bed in just her night time nappy and she has her duvet on.

What ear would you trust? Ear 2 was the one squished to the bed so more warmth there.

I did give her calpol anyway just incase.

She is sound asleep and feels nicely warm now. Temp is normal now too. But only did one ear as not to disturb her.

When my dd is awake and I suspect she's poorly I take three measurements and take an average. This might be one from left ear and two from right. If they are wildly different I'd take a fourth to be more accurate.
If definitely do what you did and take a measurement carefully from one ear if she was asleep and I was worried
Hope your LO feels better soon!

If she sleeping and she doesn't feel like she is burning up, I wouldn't worry and check both ears when she wakes. I am sure she will better later in the morning!

If she is sleeping don't worry. I ditched the thermometer in favour of a hand on their body; you can feel a fever. Treat with paracetamol. Normally it helps. If it doesn't add in ibuprofen 2 hours after. If it still doesn't treat it, or child is deteriorating then call 111.

Both, but I won’t wake to check a temp of 38c. A small rise in temperature just means her body is fighting an infection
