I've realised my DD is finding it hard to go to the loo , she will let me know she's going by making noises (pushing basically) but when she goes it's hardly anything there and she's done it a few times today it's like she can't go? Any advice? What causes it?is it normal?

It could be low liquid intake. If your Dd is dehydrated and not drinking enough milk or water with feeds, this can cause them to be constipated.
Any change in what she eats could cause a change in bowel movements. So if she was breastfed and is now formula-fed, her digestive system needs to get used to this change. The same is true if you go from a liquid diet - like breastmilk or formula - to solid foods.
If she is formula-fed, make sure you are using the right amount of powder when mixing formula. Too much can cause a baby to become constipated.
Occasionally baby constipation can be a symptom of a food allergy,
There are some conditions that can cause constipation in babies, such as a small tear in the anal canal (ouch!).
Do the baby bicycle. With your Dd lying on her back, gently move her legs in a cycling motion. This can help relieve any trapped wind and kickstart the little digestive system.
Give her some fruit. The natural fibre in fruit (especially prunes) can help get things moving again.
Give her a warm bath. This can help her relax and the warmth can soothe an aching tummy.
Constipation in babies is going to happen from time to time while they are developing. At times it can be uncomfortable for them, but more often than not, their tummy will work things out.

Hi.
My son was constipated when he around that age. Introducing solids is quite a transition for their systems.
So, most importantly.. fluids. How is her water intake?
Can you increase it? I offered sips all the time and even though he often turned it down his overall intake went up.
Have you tried stewed pear puree? Prunes? Prune juice or stewed prunes?
Have you eliminated things that don’t help constipation, ie. bananas, apples, dairy, rice, eggs?
I would try all of these.

If none of these help and things are bad I would seek medical advice as it’s impirtant it doesn’t go on too long and they don’t start withholding.

However; your post indicates it’s just been happening today. If that is the case then I wouldn’t panic. I’d just try and give her mor water tomorrow, some pear purée, i’d do bicycle legs, a warm bath and that should help

@Ricekrispie22 hi thank you for replying she has all her bottles 7oz with 7scoops has always been on formula. She has breakfast and dinner like normally I just hate seeing her upset. It is making her cry horribly I offer water a lot but she pulls a face and refuses it most times (sometimes the free flow sippy cup just makes her drink regardless as it just goes straight in) she hasn't had it before. X

We have to avoid things like banana and too much cheese with my LO as it causes issues. I try to give things like tangerines, plums, peaches, encourage water drinking and give water rich food (cucumber, melon etc)

My DS got really badly constipated around this age. I remember basically having to 'help' him get it out several times [tmi, sorry]. For us, the real culprit was bananas - they really bunged him up. So cutting them out and adding in things like pears and prunes seemed to help get things moving again.

Offer water at mealtimes. If your weaning with purees this seems to be common I asked my friend as she down tw bit I down Blw. Also try tummy massage and bicycles little ones conspitated as some could just be trapped wind.

If doing meals you can offer soup to help with fluid intake also offer fourmla/ BM half an hour to an hour before meals.

It’s horrible seeing them cry and in pain and straining.
My son seemed quite stressed and stopped trying so In the end we gave him some stool softener. I wasn’t keen on medicating but it helped soften him up whilst he healed (as I think he was a bit sore, or had small tear) and gave him time to forget passing poo was stressful.

Sounds like you won’t need to take further action, but thought i’d Share just in case. Good luck!
