Is this a viral infection?

Hi,
My 3 year old son was fine all day yesterday went out shopping with him. He woke up from a late nap, looked fine in him self but he starts shaking as if he was freezing - checked him over he was covered in goose pimples but was hot to touch. His temp was 38.5. Gave him nurofen which didn't do anything. He is drinking but refusing to eat which I'm not worried about. He's just woke up from a nap and vomited, still hot and still has the goose pimples. Does this sound like viral? Thanks for any help xx

The two kids I look after have had something similar this week, sore throat and temperature spikes, very miserable and unwell with the temperature but fine and bouncing around when temp is under control. Youngest also had a blotchy, viral type rash on her tummy. We needed to give both calpol and nurofen to keep the temperature down. Their mum is a doctor and said it was a viral bug.

Thank you for the reply. So I can give him nurofen and calpol together? Xx

The advice is to stagger them so if you give one and they still have a high temperature that's causing them distress an hour or two later you can give a dose of the other. It's a good idea to write down what they had and when so you don't overdose them.

Yup fraid so. I actually currently have something similar after my eldest two brought it home from school.
Just waiting for my two year old with brittle asthma to catch it, that's when the fun really starts 😑 the one we all.have comes woth a nasty cough a few days in.
Just what i needed recovering from a hysterectomy. Nearly busting my stitches everytime i cough.
Get some difflam spray. Awesome for a sore throat

Imacliche · 17/03/2019 13:07

I meant to say if they arenr eating they may have a bad throat. So use difflam.

Starfish25 · 17/03/2019 13:17

Thank you very much for the advice xx

Imacliche hopefully you don't catch it, that's all you need including your little one. I've not heard of difflam spray will have a look for it. If he's no better by tomorrow I'll take him the doctors xx

Thanks starfish but unfortunatley its already got hold of me good and proper

Plenty of liquids and alternate calpol and ibrupofen. Unless they become really unwell drs wont do anything for a virus. You can also get dioralyte if your worried about dehydration x
