How to keep 18month old warm at night now hes outgrowing sleepbags

My DS is about to out grow his 12-18mo sleepbags. He has a little pillow so I would love to buy him a duvet but he HATES our duvet when he ends up in our bed. I really dont want to fork out for a new set of sleep bags at his age. I have been putting a blanket over him once he falls asleep for naps but ideally would like to just put him to bed at night with a blanket first time. Second issue is hes so damn wriggly I cant imagine he would stay under the blanket for more than 10min. So wont he get cold? Any suggestions to transition out of the bags

I'd suggest continuing with the bags. Depending on the brand of sleeping bag you can get sizes up to 3-4 years so if you bought bigger ones you'd still get lots of use out of them. My DS1 is almost 2 1/2 and 99.6th centile and has been happily in his 18-36month grobags till the past few weeks when he moved to bed and duvet (the bags still fit ok).

Yeah we stuck with sleeping bags till they were around 3years or so

My ds1 hated having his feet covered at night and i struggled with ideas on keeping his body warm throughout the night but something that allowed him to stick his feet out off. In the end i unstitched the bottom of his sleepbags, this could also solve your problem.

Bigger sleeping bags Grin.

Ah OK. I guess we just buy new sets. I just didnt envisage him still being in them I guess now he is a toddler. He would be able to move so much better without one. Ah well!

Fleece onesie, with feet, or extra socks.

JoJo sleep smugglers are great for wrigglers!! Separate legs so they're less constricted compared to a sleeping bag x

Sleepsuit. Next do them. Pop it on over ds jammies before I pop him in cot

UnaOfStormhold · 16/03/2019 21:55

Vaenait do some lovely sleepsuits which are basically sleeping bags with feet so they can wander round freely but don't freeze if they kick off the covers. n sizes up to age 7.

You can buy sleeping bags with feet like the Slumbersacs so they can move around in them more. I’ve not heard of the jo jo ones, but they must be similar

Double up on pyjamas and socks! It works for our 2yo, and allows independent movement!

We do use a blanket/duvet also. But you could put this over when he's asleep? And if he kicks it off then at least he's still snug with his layers.

From age 2 ish, both of mine have worked out how to get out of their sleeping bags so mobility stops being an issue. We also stuck with bags until past age 3 - at which point they are less fidgety and with it enough to pull the duvet back up again rather than yell for you!

JoJo Maman Bebe do 18 months - 4 years as the next size, the one I've got for my daughter has removable sleeves too. An investment really as they last so long (depending on height of course).

kayakingmum · 16/03/2019 22:52

My daughter uses an IKEA duvet for her cot. Sometimes she ends up half uncovered, but I think she's worked out it's nicer under the duvet than on top of it. She also wears pyjamas (long sleeves and trousers which keeps her warm).
I went over to the duvet because, from memory it was easier to give up on the battle to zip her into her sleeping bag thing.

you can also take a standard single and tuck it in sideways.

drspouse · 17/03/2019 16:00

Gro To Bed zip on duvets!
They don't fit that well on cots but you can just about use them, they come in cot bed and single bed sizes officially.
