My 11 year old asked for me to make porridge.I used the large grains by mistake,so the porridge was different from usual. She would not even try it and has been sulking, although no tantrums.I have said she can make her own porridge from now on.She is not happy.I would
relent if she would try it.What does anyone think ?.What would you do?I've said she can get her own breakfast this morning. Thanks

God I wouldn;t give it a second thought. I've two DDs aged 14 and 11. This sort of thing happens often and doesn't bother me at all.

Mine do make their own generally but if I did make them something and they didn't like it because it was different, what am I going to do? Force them to eat it? Nope. I'd just give it to the dog or chickens.

Thanks for your perspective.I wouldn't force her,I said just try it.She can be very particular and I don't want her getting worse, especially as a teenager. We have no dog or chicken s !

'What 11 year old doesn't make their own breakfast?'

The OP's 11 year old (today, the OP made it). Keep up!

NuffSaidSam · 16/03/2019 11:51

OP just leave her to sort herself out today.

I wouldn't make sweeping statements about 'I'm never making breakfast again' or anything. New day, new start. At eleven I'm sure she's capable of making her own breakfast, but if you're doing breakfast for everyone/hers as a treat just carry on as normal and include her.

missyB1 · 16/03/2019 11:55

Don't worry about it, she can go without or make herself the one she likes. It's just one day and one bowl of porridge. Oh and ignore the sulks.

Not getting breakfast made for you for a while is a good natural consequence of being huffy
