Tongue tie has reattached

My baby had the clip done through referral at 3 weeks for her tongue tie. She’s now 4 months and I think it has reattached - I am going to go get it checked by a midwife but the appointment isn’t till next Friday.

We have had feeding problems for the past month and a bit. I did a post here about it. Long story short, I have had severe shooting pains in my breast after feeding. She clicks constantly whilst on and I have to support her in getting a deep latch after seeing an LC. On the 2nd visit to the same LC, 2 weeks later, I was told that as I am still experiencing pains it could either be that her tongue tie has reattached, thrush or just that she is a baby who struggles to latch.

I’m currently on fluconizole and baby is having the gel. I use daktarin after feeds and will do this for 2 weeks. To see if things improve.

However, I’ve been observing my LO’s tongue more closely and I have a sinking feeling it has re-attached. We did all the exercises to prevent this and somehow it’s happened. I fed her really often too as advised to stretch the tongue. I watched a video of her (taken after her clip) earlier today and her tongue is much more free than it is now. I’ve noticed that she can’t use her tongue to touch the top of her mouth as when she cries, it curls slightly on both sides and the middle seems to not lift. This is what it was like before the clip.

I’ll wait for confirmation but for the sake of this post, let’s say it’s confirmed. I hated that she had to have it done the first time and I am not sure how I feel about her having a second. She is gaining weight well but I have really been going through a lot of pain bf her and I don’t really want to stop if it’s something we can fix. I was told by someone they don’t clip after 9 weeks old? Not sure if that’s true? Also, I’m obviously worried it’ll just reattach again.

Has anyone gone through 2 clips?
Advice would be greatly appreciated!

I believe its up to 9 months they will clip in my area, so you still have time. The shooting pain sound like thrush to me, good you have got fluconazole you should feel much better soon. Think about avoiding risk for reinfection, for me it was breastpads. I was trying to be ecofriendly with reusables but never had thrush again after switching to disposable and changing at every feed.

Definitely worth getting it sorted now if you can I would say. My dd1 needed surgery at 2 because it became clear she was struggling with food and speech. That was very stressful with General anaesthetic etc (all well now). Hope all goes well Flowers

It varies by area. Where I live, they won't do it on NHS after 3months.
We had to go private at 4 months. It cost £75 to clip. Was also £75 for an assessment but there are options to get assessed for free.

Thanks @milkjetmum You’ve made a good point about the general anaesthetic. Will def be checking it out with miswifves this weeek. Only concern is about 4 people said her tongue tie wasn’t that bad before one finally agreed with me because of the pains I had at 3 weeks.

@FTMF30 I didn’t know about it varying by location. Thank you
