Should I get dd to stop having bottles?

Dd will be 2 in a couple of months & she is still asking for bottles all the time. Sometimes she can have about 5 in a day if she's not well or is just having a bad day. I think they are more for comfort than anything so I have never really had an issue with it, especially as other than that I can't get her to drink much! She will always have one when she wakes up and before she goes to sleep, which I think is fine. My issue now is she has started doing this thing where no matter how warm the milk is, she always says 'more hot' and wants it hotter. I've pretended to warm it up more as any more and it will burn her, but no matter what I do she just keeps saying 'more hot' and ends up having a tantrum then the bottle goes flying and there's milk everywhere which then leads to another tantrum! This used to be just during the day when she asked but now it's started to be at night time and the mornings now. To be honest it's doing my head in. Dd is my first so don't have any experience of this. Do I slowly stop giving her bottles? I have tried distracting her in the day time when she asks but she will always go back to wanting one and eventually just gets really upset. I was thinking of getting her a teddy that you can microwave as sometimes she falls asleep cuddling her bottle so I think it's the warmth she finds comforting aswell. Just wondered if anyone had any advice?
Thank you in advance xxx

Is this formula or cows milk we are talking about? My son stopped just before 12 months when I changed his formula to cows milk and he didn't like it. Have you given her a cup of milk instead?

I doubt you need to be reminded how bad bottles are for children's teeth, especially if she is drinking it at bedtime.

I think going cold turkey is your best bet.

Explain she's too much of a big girl now for a bottle. Buy her a special big girl cup. Tell her the bottles have gone to a baby or the bottle fairy or the Easter bunny or whatever story you think will work for her. Have the fairy/bunny/baby leave the big girl cup and warm teddy as a swap.

Get rid of the bottles so you can't be tempted to backtrack.

Agree with others that she's a bit big now.

Having a bottle (or milk in a cup) before bed is a very high risk factor for tooth decay, it's good to stop that asap. It's also a lot of milk for her to be taking - is she a good eater? My niece used to drink this much and was very fussy with food, partly because she was always full with milk, as soon as she stopped it, she was much more open to proper food.

Having the bottle fairy take them to babies who really needed them helped with my bottle-lovinf DS3 (it helped that that babies 'gave' him back a chocolate button per bottle, as they were of course not allowed to eat the chocolate themselves Smile)

Thank you for your advice.
She varies with food, some days she'll eat whatever I give her, other days she'll be really picky. I like the button idea though so I'll definitely give that a go. I'll get her a nice new cup and a teddy at the weekend, and expect a few tears!
Thank you so much everyone.

I also agree with the pp that you have to get rid of the bottles before you do this - offer for free on Freecycle and someone in need will take them, give the to a friend or recycle them, but don't hold onto them just in case or you'll crack Smile You're weaning yourself too!!
