Weaning advice

Hi mum's and all.

Need a little advice. LO is 24 weeks, we started weaning 4 weeks ago as she was hungry all the time and I felt I couldn't keep up with her. She was ebf and still gets the same amount of milk as before plus two meals. Breakfast at 8 and dinner at 5. She's generally been a poor sleeper since birth and it's a fight getting her to nap. My advice that I need is, how long after food do you give milk. OH says I should wait up to an hour and half because its not good for milk to be mixed up with her food. But today I gave her porridge for breakfast and 20 minutes later gave her milk and shes gone into a very deep sleep and has been sleeping for nearly an hour. Normally she wakes up from her nap after 15 minutes. I don't know if we're waiting to long and missing her window of opportunity to put her down. However is 20 minutes after food too short a time. Please could someone advise, just want to do all I can to help her nap.

Milk should be given 30 to 60 mins
BEFORE food. Food at this age is for exploring and learning. You don’t want her to drop milk feeds or be hungry or grumpy before she has food so give her milk first.

There is nothing wrong with the milk and food being ‘mix up’. What problems does your DP think it will cause?

As above milk before food at this age as there is where the majority of her nutrition from milk. So first feed of milk then breakfast around 45-60 mins later. Then her next feed when she needs it.

Sorry I forgot to add that I do give her milk first thing in morning when we wake up.

She has milk at 6.30-7.00 then breakfast at 8

Just give her milk afterwards when she shows feeding cues. Don’t forget to give water with food.

DS just feeds when he wants and has meals when we’re eating. I think they usually say milk about an hour before food to ensure that they are getting the most nutritious calories as a priority but DS will happily have a feed before and after a meal sometimes so I don’t really bother trying to stick to a schedule.

We used to do food 30 minutes after milk, if he was too hungry he couldn't eat properly and then swapped this round at about 9 months. Does your husband not have a drink with his food? Hmm

Given she's not even 6 months old I'd prioritise naps over food.
