Baby keeps being sick

I started weaning my baby at 6 months, he hasn't really been interested in food and mostly just spits it out straight away. I started off trying to cook for him, giving him pureed sweet potato and trying him with baby yogurt but he just didn't eat any of it so I decided to try pouches of pre made baby food to see if maybe he just wanted a bit more flavour.
I gave him an Ella's kitchen pouch last week (in the morning and a bit more at lunch time). That night he developed a temperature and started vomiting. I took him to the doctors and they said it was a virus. He was fine by lunch time the next day.
I didn't try him with any food again until today when I gave him a bit of another Ella's kitchen pouch in the morning and again some more at lunch time. He was sick an hour ago and has a temperature again.
As far as I know he hasn't come into contact with anyone who's a tummy bug recently (he hasn't actually seen anyone other than me and my sister who I live with since the weekend) so I don't know how he could have caught a bug. Could this be something to do with the food?

He's 8 months old now.

Give him a few days. Milk is the most important source of nourishment until 1. Offer plenty of milk and gradually introduce one thing at a time. Maybe every 3 days incase of allergy you can pinpoint cause.

Teaocoffee Yeah, I think I'm going to go back to basics and try the sweet potato etc again. Would an allergy cause a temperature?

Honestly I don't think he's over his virus. They can take a while to fully go in babies. Keep him on his milk for a couple of weeks and then slowly re introduce solids. Try some puréed apple and pear or plain baby rice. Go easy on flavour until he is happy to received solids.

Rafabella8 · 07/03/2019 22:28

Sorry OP should have said to cook the apple and pear down together with a little water - then purée it!

Gardengnomes · 07/03/2019 23:03

Rafabella8 Thank you. I thought he was better as he hadn't been properly sick since last Friday and has seemed back to his old self. Do you think the food was just too much for his tummy so soon after having a virus?
He's just been sick again (but it was mostly just dry heaving as his tummy is empty) should I be breastfeeding him as normal? He's due a feed now but I don't know if I should wait until his tummy is more settled.

Sorry sweetheart- I fell asleep. I hope he's a little better this morning. I would always have offered milk (bottle or breast) but also cooled boiled water to avoid dehydration. Take him back to the surgery today, highly likely he still has a virus. Regardless, he'll be off solids until he is feeling much better. He'll cope perfectly well on milk and water until he is better. Let me know how you get on.

Keep breastfeeding as normal throughout. The baby switches to food and stops needing so much milk.
Mine all started on baby rice mixed with milk.

Give little bits of food at a time to start with. It's a big change for their tummy to process. A whole Ella's pouch might be enough food for two days (6-8 meals) in the beginning. Fruit and veg is good to start with. If he grabs a roast potato off you and chews it, or just dissects it, that's fine too.

Milk is the main thing.

Remember : Food is fun until they're one.

Thank you everyone :)
I fed him a couple of times during the night and he brought up part of one feed so he's kept some down at least.
He seems to have developed a cough this morning so now I'm wondering if he's caught my cold and that's making him sick? I haven't been sick though. Is it normal for babies to be sick with colds? Is there anything I can do to make it easier for him?
(sorry for seeming so clueless, I'm a first time mum and full of worry)

Feed him lots and have quiet days, you are probably both tired.

Your story is that of a tummy bug; as far as I can tell no hint of allergy / food issues. Treat your baby as you would yourself in similar circumstances.
