Reaching into nappy

My 19mo daughter has developed a habit of reaching into her nappy at nap time and sometimes during the night (if she gets out of her Gro Bag).

If she's done a poo, this obviously means she ends up with poo smeared on her, her sheets, her teddies, etc.

When I say it's dirty, she repeats 'dirty' and I think she knows it's wrong but it's happened half a dozen times in the last couple of weeks now...

Any tips for how to try to avoid this? I don't put her in a gro bag at naptime - she will just escape out of it.

Is this normal? Please tell me it's a phase! Blush

I've had this and it's grim!

Try a baby gro, put on the wrong way round, so the buttons are at the back.

Impossible to undo and reach into the nappy!

What about a vest with buttons at the bottom? And a onsie instead of pj's?

Thanks both for the good ideas. We've also bought zip up onesies for nighttime as she can't undo zips yet.

It's more nap-time that's the annoying time as she normally sleeps in her vest and tights or leggings.

We'll also try tights underneath her vest, as she gets into her nappy from the side, so this could stop that

@Gottalovesummer did your lo grow out of this stage quickly?!

I'm a cm, and it was one of my minded children that did this when he had a nap in the cot.

Yes he grew out of it pretty quickly but it was grim for a while.

He's now 7 and a wonderful boy, I still care for him Smile

It's a phase, lots of kids do it. But she probably doesn't understand it's wrong per se - she's probably just uncomfortable in a dirty nappy.

My friend trained her DD to call out "Dirty!" when she had a dirty nappy by saying it loudly (in a happy voice) every time her DD had one. Then if it was 5am she'd hear a cheerful little voice calling out. Not sure if yours would be keen to do that or not.

The turned round sleepsuits with the feet cut off tend to nip it in the bud. But that doesn't address the issue of her having to still be in a dirty nappy either.
