Difficult weaning!

My 7 month old lo is refusing solids. We introduced at age 5 months and things were going well the few days but over the pat few weeks she would just spit everything out. We've tried all sorts of foods and all sorts of consistencies! Also tried finger food but again she just spits out whatever she bites off. She is breast fed and refuses the bottle too! Her sleep has also been awful over the past few weeks as she has been waking up every 2 hours. I don't think it is all down to teething as her gums don't look particularly inflamed. Has anyone got an ideas on what I should do about getting her on solids?

Her main source of food until 1 is still going to be your milk. Keep introducing her to solids and she'll take an interest eventually (If not ask your health visitor for advice). With some kids it just clicks straight away! It's all about the new textures, smells, tastes and learning how to move their jaw and tongue to manoeuvre food at the moment. Any swallowing is a bonus!
We found sitting our LO in her high chair with us at every meal and serving her the same meal helped.

Keep trying. I was absolutely beside myself when at 9 months, DS was still clamping his mouth shut. Then one day, he just got it. I went with more traditional weaning, although I didn’t really introduce lumps slowly, once he was eating, he was eating everything.

I know baby rice is comparable to cement mix but the familiar taste of his milk in solid form seemed to help him along a bit!

He’s 18 months now and uses a fork beautifully!

You could try baby rice or porridge made with breast milk as it will be a familiar taste. But otherwise just keep trying a variety of finger foods and purées, he’ll get there, and he’s only 7 months so milk is still primary source of nutrition for now.

My DD didn't really eat much of what I gave her until she was 9-10 months old and it really picked up after she turned one. I'd just offer her bits of your food at meal times and just carry on with milk on demand in the meantime. If you're worried though, definitely speak to your HV.
