New born not pooping- 3 days old

Hello, just need a little advice!!

I gave birth to my LG 3 days ago, and she pooped three times in hospital (meconium-looking stuff), but since being home she has only opened her bowels once which was 6;30am yesterday morning, she is still producing wet nappy's and is formula fed. The midwife who came out today didn't seem too concerned and said that it's normal for new borns to not poop for 2-3 days. Being a FTM means that i'm anxious over everything, please can I have some advice off anybody?Smile

Its not really normal at this age. They can do fewer at 5-6 weeks old but I would expect more often for a 3 day old. How much formula is she taking and how often?

What colour was the poo yesterday?

TinaTeaspoonsBellybutton · 04/03/2019 20:39

My son did an enormous poo an hour after birth ... and then just didn't go again! He seemed fine but Midwife who visited on day 6 sent us to hospital where he was given a teeny tiny suppository which moments later unleashed a torrent!!! All was well after that.
Your daughter sounds like she's gone more often but just keep the midwives updated if she hasn't gone again soon.

At 3 days they should be pooing and it changing colour. Can you give the midwife a call and ask what to do

Jackshouse · 05/03/2019 06:30

Ring the postnatal ward and ask for advice.

ASAS · 05/03/2019 06:36

Yes, ring a midwife. We're all very well meaning, but we're internet randoms.

And congratulations x
