Baby carrier in the rain... advice please

I have started taking my 2 month out in a baby carrier and now prefer this to the pushchair but it’s torrential rain where I live for the rest of the week & I don’t know if/how I can still use the carrier in the rain & how I can protect the baby against the wind & rain?

Rainsuit with feet?

Get a massive coat that will fit over both of you?

I just put the hood up, zip my coat over the bottom half and carry an umbrella. You can get babywearing coats though that zip up and the babies head comes out with a little hood.

You can buy rain covers for some carriers. We have an ergobaby and got a rain cover from Amazon. It is a little on the flimsy side so might not be brilliant in torrential rain. Alternatively you can get coats which have an extra panel with a hood that zips in to cover the baby in the carrier.

We have something like this. It worked well with the carrier, and it was also handy that it could attach to the pushchair for extra warmth in the winter.

if you love it id invest in a babycarrying coat. quite pricey but good resale - look second-hand and sell second hand and you won't loose too much.

I just wore a man’s large rain coat over the top. Hat on baby and maybe a light blanket over their head (obv so they can still breathe and not overheat) and they were pretty well protected when tiny.

I had no idea such things existed and made do with a rain jacket and a golf umbrella GrinI'm sure it didn't look very chic but I promise you neither of my kids ever got wet under there!

Last baby I used dh coat this baby I've splashed out on a mamalila coat. It's amazing and I wished I knew about them last time.

I got a ‘zip us in’ panel and the adaptors to make it fit my waterproof jacket. The advantages are that it also fits DH’s jacket and that I can keep wearing my good waterproof. The disadvantage is that I don’t think the label itself is really fully waterproof so I’m totally torrential raid your probably need an umbrella up too to keep the worst of the rain off.

Umbrella or raincoat for baby ( but they can get rather hot)

PandaSky · 04/03/2019 09:17

I got this as I knew I wouldn't get enough use out of the expensive baby wearing coats to justify the cost

Loads of nice babywearing coats here:

www.bonprix.co.uk/maternity/coats-jackets//N-1z13yxqZ1z141eg?cs_ev=Menu--Maternity--CoatsJackets--none

And if you sign up for an account you get a decent discount (I did this and then just paid it straight away so no interest)

Eminybob · 04/03/2019 09:26

Most baby wearing coats the panel zips off completely so can be used as a normal coat, and adjust to become a maternity coat if you have another baby. So I think worth the investment if you use a carrier a lot.

When DS was on my front, I had a huge fleece gilet that zipped over us both, under my coat (which wouldn't do up). Then I had a brolly as well.

When we moved onto back carries I cut a hole in the back of gilet for his head and wore it over plenty of layers for me. He had a little jacket with a hood, and again a brolly in the rain. He was fine!

I did try having him in a rain suit just outside of my coat, but although he was mostly ok, the problem we found was that the water ran down my shoulders into his face. So we personally found a brolly to be the best answer - a nice big one.
