Dear all parents,

I am an illustration student trying to illustrate the book, 'The Phantom Tollbooth' by Norton Jester. What age do you think this book is aimed at? Have your kids read this book and if so, what age did they read it at?

Kindest Regards,

I think that to understand everything in the book you need to be an adylt,or at least a teenager with good English skills. But it is suitable from about seven I think, depends very much on the child.

Hmm I would say it's aimed at 8 or 9 year olds?

Mine have not read it yet (they are 7 and 5)

I loved this book as a child and read it to myself at around 9.

I've tried to read it to my 7 year old but she just doesn't know enough about the subtly of language to 'get' it.

I agree with the above poster that it can only really be appreciated as an adult.

Although, thinking about it, a heavily illustrated version could be very helpful for younger readers.

I remember reading it at school aged 9

9 seems right to me. God I loved that book.

There is a way to calculate the reading age by taking a sample and applying a formula. I can’t remember the formula but I’m sure
Google will help with that.
