9 month check missed?

Just wondering when everyone had A 9 month check?
My dd is 10 months now and we haven't seen the hv yet. Wanted to get her weighed at 8 months to make sure everything was good after she's dropped her day time breastfeeds. Everyone comments on how small she is and she's still in 3-6 clothing.
I rang her hv and she wasn't in so left a voicemail, no reply, I text her, no reply. That was a couple weeks ago and now we're at 10 months.

Am I supposed to make an appointment or does she just turn up?

I didn't think there was a 9m appointment.
My ds is 9m and we were told at his last appointment (at 8w) we would next see the HV at the 12m appointment.
My ds is still in 3-6m for most clothes too btw. Only just in 6-9 for trousers because his legs are longer than the rest of him.

My dd was small and HV was obsessed with weighing her which made me a bit obsessed too. At 3 year check they eventually said if dd is growing and has energy dont worry about her. I wish I had known earlier.

I don't remember 9 month check, but usually for any standard check ups a letter would arrive with appointment.

Agree with pp, don't think there ia a 9 month check just the 12 month one. I think you can just go and get her weighed at hv clinic or whatever you have in your area.

I have had a letter for a 9 month check through but I went to get DS weighed a few weeks ago and asked about it then so maybe that’s why. I don’t think it’s the most important one, maybe they are under resourced so not doing it in all areas anymore.

katmarie · 02/03/2019 11:04

We didn't have a 9 month check at all, just the regular baby stuff and then a 12 month check.

Shelbybear · 02/03/2019 11:06

I've never heard of a 9month check. They do a check about age 1. I had to chase this up and she didn't get it till 15months. They said oh it's so they can tick more boxes off the list 🙄

You should have a clinic you can take her to for weighing. You could have a chat then about your concerns. However you should be able to call and make an appointment too.

Shelbybear · 02/03/2019 11:12

She might also just catch up soon enough. My girl kept going up centiles and was in 9-12 clothes at 6 months and in 12-18 at 9 months. I can see why you would be worried though.

My girl is now 22 months and still gets into some 12-18 stuff now but mainly 18-24. Her growth def slowed and the weight fell off too. She's now slightly smaller than average height and about average weight.

My area has a 9 month check rather than 12 months, though we actually had it at 10 months.

If you have concerns though just go to the clinic.

tappitytaptap · 02/03/2019 13:37

We had a year check they actually did at 10 months. The ASQ is online and you can also find an answer/score sheet, could look at this yourself to see if baby is doing ok for age for a bit of reassurance in the mean time?

Wallsbangers · 02/03/2019 19:30

Depends on the area. Ours was before they are 11 months old.

Middlrm · 02/03/2019 19:34

My son is only 14 weeks but I take him to see a health visitor once a month for weighing at a local centre ... I would see if anyone goes to a local church / play group in the week and take them yourself I live in Kent maybe it’s different in different places.

I just rock up and join a que to see her and get my red book updated x x

Shelley54 · 02/03/2019 19:35

There is usually a check done at 10-12 months, depending on your area.

If you want to know how much your child weighs why not just weigh them instead of leaving it a month still wanting to know?

SherlockSays · 02/03/2019 19:40

Depends on your area - we don't have a 9 month check here, it's at 12 months but a friend of mine who lives in Gloucester had a 10 month check for her DD.

SherlockSays · 02/03/2019 19:41

Don't you have weigh clinics? I just take DD to them and you can either self weigh or there's 2 HV's there that you can talk to about anything.

Creatureofthenight · 02/03/2019 21:06

In our area we have a 9 month check but in practice it’s often closer to 10 months, appointment was sent through the post along with the questionnaire to fill in.
Where did you get baby weighed before? Not at baby clinic?

Tigger001 · 03/03/2019 01:07

I think the checks are 9 to 12 month checks. We had ours closer to 12 months, I was advised they generate the appointments so as soon as you DC has an appointment a letter will be sent to you. This check is more of a milestone type check to see if their development is in line with where they think they "should be ". Not sure if that's the one you mean? Sorry if it's a different one.

My DS is a small and everyone who meets like to tell me, you know, just in case I hadn't noticed !!!

I still take him every month or so to get him weighed and check in with the HV, they have always said he is perfectly fine. So long as he is eating well and has wet and dirty nappies, they say try no to worry

mindutopia · 03/03/2019 07:39

These checks happen somewhere between 10-12 months. You’ll usually get a letter in the post. But usually there are multiple weigh in clinics per week so I would just drop in to one of those. You don’t need an appointment for a weight check.

MustBeAWeasly · 03/03/2019 08:27

Last time I saw my hv she said I'll see you at 9 months for her check and my neighbour had a 9 month one a few months ago so assumed I'd be seeing her.
There is a weigh in clinic we took her to when she was small It's just in the middle of the day while I'm at work and I'd have to take her out of nursery so was hoping the appointment would be on a day I wasn't working.

No use ringing her for anything last month dd was sick rang hv for advice and heard nothing back so took her to the dr who said why didn't you as your hv 😒
