Chicken pox

Hi mums,

My daughter was sent home from nursery as she was sick last monday 11 days ago, was really unwell with a fever of 39.6 and almost ended up in a&e, next day went to doc as fever came back and he gave antibiotics and suggested maybe ear infection as ear was slightly red. She finished the course and was feeling much better by Thursday. Tuesday this week (3 days ago) she came out in about 6 pink Spots on her shoulder and upper back and 2 on forearm. She isn't bothered by them, not itchy and no other symptoms..

Took her to pharmacist and she wasn't sure said could be a viral rash from the high fever the week before, or mind chicken pox....

I don't know what to do with nursery/soft plays etc? Has anyone else has this? is this a mild case and do we think linked to fever the week before?

Any advice please x

Chicken pox spots are distinctive. Although they look just pink to begin with, after about 12 hours a watery blister will form in the centre. The itching tends to start once the blister pops and the scans form. If none of this has happened since the spots appeared on Tuesday I would be inclined to rule out chicken pox.

My daughter did get unwell shortly before getting chicken pox. And they did start out quite small and pink but they escalate quite quickly. I'm sure that they are contagious until they scab over although I may be wrong so you might want to check.
I kept my daughter off from when the first little pink ones came until they were all scabbed and starting to clear, although it was over Christmas so she was hardly at nursery anyway.

You'll know pretty quick if it is chicken pox but I would say better safe than sorry because it is so contagious once one gets it they all seem to.

If it isn't chicken pox you might want to vaccinate against it. You have to do it privately but it's worth it in my opinion.

I agree with @OhamIreally if I'd known how bad it was I would've definitely paid for a vaccine so she wouldn't get it
My dd had it really bad and it made her really ill

We did not know for 48 hours if DD had chicken pox as she only had a few herald spots. It was two days later that they broke out every where.

Little update, must have just been a virus as no other spots came and no symptoms. I was going to get her vaccinated and then thought we were too late so defo going to get it booked now! Thanks for all your comments xxx
