Best way to support a newborn when sick

I feel like a terrible mother asking this but here we go. My daughter is two weeks old and really hasn't been that sick since she's been born, just the odd bit of spit up after a feed. Yesterday while changing her she suddenly was sick three or four times and I had absolutely no idea what to do - both for her safety and her comfort. She'd not long finished a big feed so I think it was probably just the laying flat that did it.
Anyway - my instinct was to sit her up so she wasn't just lying in her sick and I tried to both support her neck and rub her back - I didn't know if that was right or I should have picked her up and put her over my shoulder or what 🙈 I wanted to help her but stupidly felt really unsure what was best. Sorry I realise this is probably ridiculous but I hope I can deal with it better when it inevitably happens again!

Yes - upright or on their side so that they don't choke on it (particularly until they master a bit more head control)
Otherwise, change clothes if necessary. You and they get used to it Smile

My DD is sick a LOT, it can be quite forceful so she's usually fine at getting it out and all over both of us but lately I just turn her in her front and hold her over the floor (wood, easy to mop) Blushthat way she can throw up in other open eyes again Shock

DD often chokes while feeding and I stick her up and soother her while she gets over it, used to it now but was scary at first.

Thank you both, reassuring to know I wasn't hugely off the mark! Grin
