She won't drink milk from a cup and is obsessed with her bottle!

Take the bottles away.

You can frame it how you like.

Give them to the Easter bunny in exchange for an egg.

Give them away 'to the babies' and buy her a 'big girl' cup.

Tell her the bottle fairy/unicorn/Princess/dinosaur has taken the bottles, but left her a present of some kind.

Whatever works. Ultimately just take them away. She's three, she can't go out and buy some more! Don't worry of she doesn't drink milk for a while, just out extra in cereal, make her a milkshake, up her yoghurt intake.

Chop the end off. Declare it broken. You have a pound left. Sweets or a new bottle??
Job done.
Worked with ds +his dummy!!

Presumably she can use a cup for water/juice?

At 3 she is old enough to be told that bottles are for babies. throw them away and give her milk in a cup. If she wants milk, she will soon adapt. If she doesn't want milk, make sure she gets plenty in other forms - yogurt, porridge, cheese etc

We went away for the weekend and (genuinely) forgot to pack a bottle. We took it as an opportunity and told him it was lost. We hid the bottles when we got home and kept up the story about being lost. After a few days he stopped mentioning it.

I need to do this! Lots of good ideas!

Jackshouse · 27/02/2019 19:07

Just get rid of it. She does not need to drink mills. She needs 360mg of calcium a day which she can get from other sources but once the bottles is gone she may start drinking milk.

MaverickSnoopy · 27/02/2019 19:22

It is easier than you think...or not. Either way you will crack it.

We just did dummies for 2.5yo. Book about dummy fairy for a few days before then put the dummies in an envelope outside her room. She shouted for 30 mins. Next morning her own fairy was outside of her room all wrapped up. That night she shouted for 10 mins and then she was over it. She actually got really ill after this and all she wanted was the fairy. She takes the fairy everywhere..I'm sure you could find an equivalent.

Mine used to enjoy a bedtime bottle of warm milk up to the age of 7/ 8 as far as I can remember - obviously she would drink out of mugs , glasses etc during the day . It didn’t bother me . However if I was bothered about something I would just stop doing it .

melissasummerfield · 27/02/2019 19:46

Does she have the milk at a set time like bedtime or morning?

If so completely change the routine and she might just forget the milk , thats what we did with the bedtime bottle and dummies and it worked.

CherryPavlova · 27/02/2019 19:50

Just open bin lid and pop them in.

GetOffTheTableMabel · 27/02/2019 19:51

You can use a skewer to gradually widen the hole in the teat a little each day. Eventually it’ll be free-flowing like a cup which lessens the comfort element and makes the switch to a cup more straightforward.

RandomMess · 27/02/2019 19:55

Bin them and show her they have disappeared, perhaps the bottle fairies cane and left her a "big girl" cup.

If she refuses to drink milk thereafter it's not the end of the world we don't need to drink it.

Happyclappy20 · 28/02/2019 09:34

Some great ideas - think I just need to throw away. She asks for milk all day and it's the main source of tantrums. She wakes in the night for it too.

Exact same for us at same age (DS now 4) except we made ours pick a toy he wanted more than anything, and told him it was that or the bottles. He decided he would personally throw the bottles away at that point. Good luck with whatever you try!

Eggybod · 28/02/2019 16:02

Should add it was a new toy, not one he already had!!!!

Cranb0rne · 28/02/2019 20:00

I ripped the teat accidentally and never bought a new one. He lost interest really quickly after that when he couldn't drink the milk anymore 😂 (he was almost 3).
